Recoil Question: Benelli SBE vs Beretta Extrema

Nearly all the stories of malfunctioning Benelli's come from the SBE series of guns. Usually the SBE and light loads are the culprit. That's just a bad mix, the SBE is a 3 1/2" inch gun and wants something with more "ummph" to allow it to cycle reliably. Also, in many cases a few hundred heavy loads break things in and make cycling a more sure thing with the SBE.

The M1/M2 series is trouble free and the most reliable semi-auto shotgun currently on the market. The M1/M2 is as sure as death and taxes. My next pick would be the Beretta, a close second.

But if I were doing high volume shooting in which the round count would number in the cases, not a few boxes, a heavy steel frame gas gun would be my choice. I guess a Remington 1100 series would be it. I would know that maintenance would be a priority with this gun and to expect an occasional hiccup. In a Mexican or South American dove field, so what, no biggie. Shots come in the hundreds down there and it isn't like you missed a rare opportunity to bag game or had to defend yourself from something that was trying to seperate you into fillets. You don't have to pack the 1100 far in the dove field so the weight won't be bothersome.

This has all been hashed out here many times before and everybody has an opinion. As was said, we have different tolerances for recoil, fit of the gun, and hunting task. All that must be taken into consideration. We are blessed today with a variety of excellent choices and that is what makes a discussion such as this fun - choices! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
