Recommendations for a SIMPLE, LOUD caller………

Foxpro X24 with the MFK sounds. I have a refurbished X24 that I bought from a supplier and I've been running it for several years without a single problem. The internal recharable battery is nice, the remote has everything you'll need for calling. You can program call sequences, you can change the color of the lights to more red, the sounds are loud and crisp even at higher volumes. I'm sure there are other callers that work just fine, but I bought an entry level and I repeat, entry level, icotech 4 or 5 years ago when I first started and it left a lot to be desired. The remote would lose connection even in open fields and that would upset me to no end, having to get up and reset the caller in the middle of a stand. I then got a foxpro without a TX1000 remote and it worked decent but I always wanted more volume and I had to remove the batteries to recharge them. Anyway enough with my rambling. Happy hunting!
Edit: I reread your statement and you said simple, you can use as many or as few of the features as you want on the X24 and the TX1000 remote. All how you want to run it.

If you can find a Krakatoa in good shape I’d snag it. They’ve been floating around on Facebook lately but it’s hard to trust people nowdays when buying stuff like that. I still run a couple of CS24C callers, which I’ve always like for simplicity, except when loading new sounds… that’s a pain in the ass. I’m due for a new caller myself but won’t pull trigger till next year probly….unless the civil war breaks out between now and then.

50/50 chance on the civil war. If it happens, you need a caller that broadcasts

“Free sh*t over here for all pronoun people!”

You will get plenty of doubles and triples.

Getting back to loud. A conversation with my buddy while out amongst 'em this past weekend, reminded me, if loud is what matters - look at the output watts. It tells the loudness story. And the Krakatoa, is, loud.

Ya, there's no mention of decibel rating either on most of the call makers sites.

Apparently the “Krakatoa” is no longer made, I’ve found no info on it. The main reason I’d like to try an electronic unit with some sort of visual attractor is so I can set it a ways off from me and the critter will focus and run towards IT, not me. I want one with good volume as it can be very windy at times here. But, more important than volume is clarity of sound. The <$100 Icotec I tried was garbled sounding.
I don’t mean to be cheap but spending $500-$600 on a caller is a huge step for me.

You're not wrong Wind River. It is a lot of money. If you don't go often it's not worth it, I go 2 or 3 times a week in the Fall, Winter and Spring; so for me the X24 makes sense. AllPredatorCalls.com will sometimes have refurbished X24's on sale that are a good deal. That's how I got mine. You also get to choose from a bunch of sounds they can pre-load on the call. I was worried about the quality and having issues, but like I said, I have used it hard for the last year and if it went out today I would not be upset.

Edit: I did have an issue with the remote last December when I went down to Texas but I sent it to Foxpro and they replaced the screen free of charge. I was very happy and impressed.

For the guys that don't use full blast volume in open country, give this a try.

After calling for about 10 minutes with the volumes you normally use, go to full blast volume for 30 to 45 seconds and then turn the volume down to your normal volumes. If any coyotes show up after playing your sound at full blast volume it just maybe because the coyotes heard full blast volume 1 to 2 miles away and they didn't hear your normal volume sounds.

Many times after going to Pup Distress 3 on full blast volume or Jack Rabbit Distress on full blast volume I have had coyotes show up 3 to 10 minutes later. If the coyotes do hear your sounds at 1 to 2 miles away it may take them 5 to 10 minutes to show up.

Coyotes are not always in a perfect location to hear your lower volume sounds.

Spending $500 in this hobby is a lot for me as well. I found a hellcat pro on sale for 330 and have been using that for my timber sets and coon calling, i really like it. Its definitely loud enough for most of my coyote calling situations, apparently its louder than a normal hellcat. The internal rechargeable lithium battery is really nice, i can coon hunt all day calling 20-30 different spots and it recharges in 30 minutes when i get home. It is so night and day better than the 100-150 class callers.

I actually like remotes that don't have a screen, I'd rather be watching for coyotes than reading at a stand. But I can run a a ten key adding machine and type without looking at the keyboard so I feel comfortable with a remote with just a keypad.

I was looking at that unit as well. Those are $399 now but a couple of dealers have them on sale for $330ish. I need clear sound and decent volume in this open, windy country. I’m also considering the Lucky Duck Roughneck for just a few bucks more.

how would you know what sound is going to play with out a screen.

Each sound is numbered you just punch in the number of the sound you want.

On my Minaska you have 10 banks of sounds with 10 sounds on each bank. I programed each bank to have sound 8 and 9 rodent distress and coyote pup distress so on each bank I had preset sounds on 8&9. I set up each bank with certain sound bank 0 was bird sound with favorit key 0, bank 1 was cotton tail sounds.with key 0 my favorite and a n down the line for the ten banks. I know what sound I'm going to use before I turn on the caller so I'll m on that bank before I start, never have to look down

WT the s a little different as each sound has number you just punch in the number. It is like memorizing telephone numbers(we did that when we had phones wired to the wall) or pin numbers. Plus on WT you have 10 favorites numbered 0-9 when in favorite mode each number is a sound, I rarely get off the 10 favs again you can change sounds with out have not to look down.

I really notice the looking down bit when running my Patriot as you have to scroll even for your favorites.

my CS-24 is the first model with the 500 series remote that has a key board so you can just punch in the number of the sound in addition to the scrolling option. It also has 10 presets on the keyboard so again I rarely use anything but the presets.

I do carry a laminated card with how I have the caller set up as I'm using different callers at times.
