Recommended 223 Yote ammo?

So I just completed a lightweight hunting AR build, and I was wondering if you guys could recommend any factory varmint loads That shoot accurately in your guns. My build has a 16” 1:8” twist stainless barrel with a 223 wylde chamber. I had my eye on the 62 grain nosler varmageddon load. I know I need to test some loads out but unfortunately I’m too broke after this build to test all the loads I’d like. Looking to bag my first yote soon

If in your shoes I'd go Hornady Superformance VMax and keep shots close. I have always had good luck with superformance. I think the caliber and your barrel length will benefit as well. Hope you get one!

We've killed several with this round. I think it's 3200 out of a 20in.
Seems to knock them dead and pretty easy on fur. It's available as a buy-one-get-one-free deal in a case of 200 as well very accurate in both rifles I've tried it in.
They were 8 twist 20" inch bca and a 24 inch stag model 6.
I don't think you could even load this ammo for that price.

I just loaded up a bunch of preliminary test loads for for the 62 gr Varmageddon for a 1:8 Wylde Cobratach(?) Hbar 16” bbl. I wont get to the range til next week though to let you know what worked out. I’m testing H335, W748, Benchmark and/or H4895 in LC 85 and LC 11(?) brass.

In a 16" 223 AR I would avoid the light varmint bullets. 62gr sounds good, I like 65gr sierras, dont forget about barnes copper bullets ether.

Light varmint bullets like vmax and similar bullets will kill a coyote flat but not at all shot angles, you have to avoid most bones, heavier or tougher bullets can punch through.

Ammoseek.com will have fiocchi 50 grain vmax factory ammo for 40 cents per round or cheaper depending on shipping. Prairie dog accurate to 300 yds with a stag arms varmint 24 inch barrel. The brass is excellent for reloading too. I don't hunt coyote much, but it's a vmax, and fiocchi 223 is accurate in any bolt or auto I've tried it in

That's a good inexpensive option imo as well. Friend of mine has shot a lot of called coyotes with that ammo before he moved away from the caliber. I had forgotten about them.

Ammo with a 50gr Nosler ballistic tip. I have a lot of confidence with that bullet doing 3180fps out of my 8 twist mini 14. Other than I’m used to shooting a lot faster cartridges and I have to remember to hold way more wind.

I like Vmaxes. I shoot both the 53 grain Superformance and standard 55 grain loads. I have also shot a bunch with handloaded 50 grainers with good results. 40 grainers work too, but they tend to splash and make messes more often than the heavier bullets.

I use standard Hornady Varmint Express 55 grain V-Max loads in my Colt LE-6920-R. My 1-7" twist is a bit fast for it, but it'll shoot 5-shot groups that measure 0.8" with boring regularity. I've only killed one coyote with it, but the one I did kill didn't run more than about 20 feet or so.

Correction: 24.5gr Benchmark and 62gr Hornady BTHP.

Best Preliminary (3 shot groups) for the 62gr Varmageddon 1:8 twist, 100yds over sandbags, 7X scope, 2.26" O.A.L.
25gr H335= .63"
23.5gr Benchmark=.51"
24.5gr H4895=.60"
I will load 5 shot groups at and +/- 0.5gr for each powder to see it there are any that are still

I run hornady 55gr vmax and fiocchi that’s loaded with the same bullets in my ar-15. They both shoot great and I haven’t had one coyote I’ve had to track although the longest shot I have made is 290 yds.

Totally mind boggling the number of people who recommend a V- max for coyotes. It truly is.
They are about the cheapest $$$ factory loads to buy and tend to be accurate. That's why the popularity!
Been in on a " few" coyote hunts and the V- max is by far ( other then FMJ' s) the worst KILLING bullet I've ever seen!!!

There are SO many better choices!.
A coyote ain't a prairie dog.

What do you recommend?

I am a fan of the SP's instead of the VMax. I used the VMax's for years but then something changed and I started getting runners with the VMax. So I switched over to the SP's usually 60gr or heavier.

I want to try a couple other bullets here in the near future and hope to have some results that I can share.

I admit, not a big fan of a 50 grain V-Max on coyotes, or a similar bullet. I’d want a firmer 55 grain or so soft Point.

The lighter V-max is great for prairie dogging.
