Record Profits!

Here we go again,

DALLAS (AP) - Exxon Mobil Corp. said Thursday it earned $10.36 billion in the second quarter, the second largest quarterly profit ever recorded by a publicly traded U.S. company.

I drive a pickup that gets 14 mpg on midgrade and drive 32 miles each way to work. You would think Exxon would send me a thank you card or something.

Why?
Does the government send you "Thank You" cards?

I don't like the high prices, either. But I blame the folks that get the biggest percentage off my gas dollar...the government.
(p.s., I drive an old p/u that only gets 6mph...'course that's 'cause I can't afford to buy something newer...lol)

thats what i and alot of people think here to /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

They will continue to take that kind of money as long as we continue to let them take it. Everybody ought to stop driving for a week. ALL of the problems of this country are either from Congress or corporate greed.

Everyone just needs to cut back, that would hurt them enough, i myself am going to buy a cheap small car to drive instead of my 4x4 that gets 12mpg...on a good day.

Cutting back is the operative phrase here, guys. How many of you are doing like my family... restructuring your discretionary spending at home? We've cut back as much as we can on driving; try to hold off on "wants" until we get enough to warrant one trip to town versus six or seven or run up against a "need". We've eliminated a lot of "nights out" and eat at home, rent a movie versus going to the theatre, etc.. The American people are re-evaluating how and where they spend their money, but I suspect it's every industry BUT the oil companies that are feeling the bigger pinch right now. When we've all tightened our belts so far that our eyes are bulging, then we'll start to stop less at the gas station. The impact of gas prices will be seen first (and now) thru reduced consumer buying of goods because those prices are rising due to increased shipping costs. We'll go for the middle shelf items rather than grabbing the top shelf goods, figuring that the few pennies we can save will offset our continued addiction to gasoline.

Couldn't agree more !!!!

my company is cutting back i sent my 1 ton truck back to the shop yesterday and am now trying to work out of a dodge dakota.
i can't move my trenchers and equipment from job to job like i always have one thing at a time now we are sending our semi and moving all the equipment in one trip.
this makes it harder to do multipal jobs at the same time i normally did 5 at a time now we have to complete one befor moving to the next.
if other corperations are feeling it like us that alone will slow the economy down.
we are also haveing trouble with the d.o.t. we hire a man to drive his semi and move our trailers.
he didn't get his phisical last year and we are being penalized for that. he is like a sub contractor a independent driver with his own truck. we had no knoladge that he didn't have his cdl papers in line.
he has moved our trailers for many years and this is the first time he didn't go to the docter.
we are talking about outsorcing all work where a cdl is required and selling our equipment. just to get away from the d.o.t..
we are electrical contractors and that is what smaller companys do. if we sell our backhoes trenchers digger trucks and crains and go to 3/4 ton trucks we could get the department of transpertation out of our hair{if i had any left}.
the bad point is that would reduce our bonding power and force us to do smaller jobs. morew profit in the t&m work we might just start doing mine and oil feild work and stop doing d.o.t. work all together{traffic signals,street lights d.m.s. signs.}

The U.S. taxpayers have spent billions, not to mention the sacrifices of the military, to liberate an oil rich middle eastern country. Gasoline should cost .89 a gallon.

Glad I'm not the only one that feels that way too ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

In addition to liberating the country we should have "liberated" it's oil.

I believe the word is reparations.

REPARATIONS [reparations] payments or other compensation offered as an indemnity for loss or damage. In 20th-century world history reparations are the payments sought by the victorious nations of World War I and World War II as compensation for material losses and suffering caused by war.

What is right is right. Don't know about you but I get tired of floating all of this. Just about the time I think I have a nickel or two left over, someone walks up and takes it.

Having said all of that, I still contend the US oil companies are raping the American public. Sorry Leon, nobody will talk me out of that one.

I work in the auto industry and boy o boy do we feel it. Between the cost of steel and gas its amazing we even stay afloat. My wife wont let me watch the news with her cause all the yelling I do at the tv. She says they cant hear you so stop yellin and changes it. The thing that sucks is there is nothin you can do, you gotta have it. You can only cut back so much. And they dont even have the common courtesy to give ya a reach around. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

Wow what a topic huh. Gas over three dollars a gallon. Everyone in an uproar. I think that the refineries should be taxed out of business. O wait, they are trying to get that done i.e. the high price of gas. Or maybe we should have OSHA shut down more refineries. (That’s the same peeps that want to take your guns away i.e. the government) That's the ticket. If you don't like the price of gas don't use it. It's that simple. But wait one second their “I have to get to work” ride a bike or walk. “I can’t it is to far!” Then find a job that’s closer. Supply and demand. Economics 101 boys. O ya and about the profits, they should lose money right?

You need to remember that all big oil companies are publicly owned companies. They are making money for their public owners. Lot's of individuals and even more pension plans count on them making money.

You can join at any time, your pension plan probably already has.

Actually XOM has not been a great performer the last year or two, very slightly better than average.

Your right I should sell my house/40 acres not to mention my wifes 40 grand a year job and move 20 miles closer. Or should i give up my 90 grand andsell everything so I dont have drive as far. Not to start a arguement but thats just not an option. Someone gotta make the drive. i make more so I do. They are entitled to make all the money in the world but when is enough enough. 10 billion in 3 months , come on I say enough was a long time ago.

Yeah, Jack's right. $10.36 Billion is a lot of money, but look at how many shares they have. I'm sure it's up in the billions too. So all in all, Exxon the company didn't make a lot of money, it's share holders did. Besides, gas is about the only thing that hasn't inflated with everything else over the last 50 years. Even with these huge increases recently, gas prices are still below what it should be with normal inflation.

Hi,I live here where they make the S#*#.And it's still about
$3.00 so how about this lets go to the top and bi#**.Here is the add.
President@WhiteHouse.gov hey can't hurt.Just tell them to remember the tea party .There is eought of us to make a little noise. And wright your local gov.also.Here you work when oil prices are up and you don't when they are low. No matter what kind of work you do.But even here we say eought is eought. Thanks Clint. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

There are always options. Don't sell yourself short. As far as an argument. Not trying to start one brother just an observation. And I don't believe anyone should tell someone else how much he can make or not make. Just what I think.
