Just curious to see how many of you use a red dot scopes on coyotes and other critters. i guess they would be OK for up close shooting, but what kind of accuracy can you expect?

Red dots are ok in thick cover, on a coyote size animal about 50 yards would be the limit for a good shot, beyond that the red dot obscures too much of the animal to make an accurate shot.
 
Depends on the size of the dot. I shoot an aimpoint with a two minute dot and on a Ruger Super Redhawk it is very accurate to a hundred and fifty yards for deer sized game.

When I got my last turkey gun the Aimmpoint went on it and works for turkeys out to 60 yards with heavyshot.

I wouldn't feel under sighted for coyotes out to a hundred yards with mine on a centerfire rifle, though I prefer scopes for that kind of work.

EOTech has a 1 MOA dot inside a 65 MOA circle. I have one on back-order at the Optic Zone right now. I'll tell you how it works if I ever receive it. It's going on a new upper D-Tech built for me, so I expect great things. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Most red dots have 3 MOA or bigger dots, but I'd think you could kill yotes with one if you called them in to a decent range (200 yards or less) and had a steady rest or bipod.
 
I use a red dot on the 45-70 guide gun for hunting in the thick swamps where shooting distances are probably 40yds on a good stand. Accuracy is good and is very quick.

On the .270 I have a Mueller 8.5-25x with red dot. The size of the dot in terms of MOA grow smaller with the zooming up to 25power. Small at 8.5, smaller at 25 due to the magnification of target. Mueller kept the MOA in mind when designing the scope and was my major concern for field shooting. This rifle is well matched with the scope in that it's dual purpose target/hunting....a nice compromise for coyote, varmints, deer, elk, what-have-you.

They are perfect for quick target aquisition on shotguns. I'd feel nekked without mine.(Bushnell) They work well at night for predators also.
 
I have a Leupold CQ/T that could be considered a RedDot scope. I haven't got a chance to use it yet but it looks like it will work great. Will let you know how I like it when I get a chance to give her a work out.
 
I am able to consistently hit 1/2 size Iron Maidens out to 400 yards with my EOTech (2 MOA dot) sitting on top of my 14.5" M-4 using XM-193 ammo.
 
i have a cheap one, but don't use it anymore cause i hate worrying about the batteries in it, and when its sunny its hard for me to see the dot even with fresh batteries, but im sure that you get what you pay for. and i couldn't see through it at night even with it turned on low
