Red Neck Recoil Reducer

Got tired of my 7 Mag kicking me to death, tried this:

Just the toe of the rifle has a lot of contact with the 25lb bag of shot. As the shot bag lays on the bench, you actually are putting more weight on the shot bag with your body, and as a result, the rifle has almost zero recoil!

Here are the groups I shot:
Rem 700 BDL in 7 Mag, 26" sporter barrel
Skim coat bedded in a Boyd's laminate, barrel freefoated
Pentax lightseeker 8-32

.5g MORE powder

Now, move the bullet from a slight jam into the lands to jumping 0.010

Hmmm, might give that a try with my 300 RUM.

P.S. nice groups, looks like you got that boomer figured out.

Does shoot nice groups using the shot bag.

Actually, I shot these groups without the shot bag. The photo's is for illustration purposes only. Lots of people struggle with recoil in many calibers.

For guys that like shooting p. dogs and do have a solid bench, this shot bag allows you to see the hits!!!

These loads have shot well in Every Remington that have owned, along with Browning, and Savages...I saw one savage that shot all the bullets in the same hole that I had Sharp Shooter Supply pillar bed and install one of his 5 oz triggers. Some rifles may demand a 65.0g load vs a 65.5, but it is rare. The groups are typical of 7 mags with the 140g Nosler Ballistic tip touching the lands vs jumping 0.010. Thus, very accurate measurement of OAL is critical. I had a Browning A bolt stalker that shot 3 shot groups in less than 1/4" constantly, and much lower with a Leupold 36x on it. This load holds up to 550 easy unless the wind is howling.

The shot bag makes heavy kickers just a joy to shoot, trouble is then you want to shoot them too much!

Doe you shoot the Pdogs with the 7mm regularly? I can see that at some of the longer yardages such as 500 yds and longer. I do not blame you for wanting to see em.

I really like Boyd's stocks, but when one gets put on a heavy
kicker, that darned solid butt pad gets replaced with a real
recoil pad! Mercury recoil reducers got put in a couple of
them as well. Made a .25-06 kick less than a .243 and made a
custom smokeless ML tolerable enough to shoot dozens of shots
vs. half a dozen shots at a sitting.

I've used them between me and the butt before, but not laying on the bench where you can get up against the butt with your shoulder like that - thanx!

I've done the bag between the gun and shoulder thing... changes the LOP a bit

.

Looks like the rifle is dialed in pretty good.

Claybreaker, if you look at the picture closely, you will see that the length of pull stays the same. With the rig above, your shoulder stays up against the stock like it normally does, and your body is putting a lot more weight on the shot bag.

Too bad that a bag of shot has gone up to about $50.

My trap club still has your recoil reducer at $42 a bag.

Correction...Trap Club is selling 25 lb bags of magnum #8 shot for $40...Two more bags of recoil reducer came home with me last night.

Good idea, but I don't think I have that much bench left to lay the bag of shot behind the butt stock. Might have to build an extension for the bench.

Sqeeze, turn the bag Sideways, works just as well. You can still get down on the gun like normal, and you put a LOT of body weight on top of the shot bag.
