I would go with it. Honestly, some of the best dogs I've seen hunt are the breeds that are least likely to do good on "paper", but in the field end up being a great asset. Heck even my Catahoula will retrieve ducks... go figure. She doesn't swim as fast as a lab, but still gets the job done. Most dogs will do whatever u want or need them to do if u r willing to spend the time working with them. Training them together is OK imo, but I would work with her alone first for several months. The biggest thing I like in my dogs is that they recognize my voice and my commands. If u have ur young dog with u and it hasn't learned to tune other people's voice out it may end up confusing the dog more than helping it. My dog has been with me for 10 yrs now, and when I go hunting , either alone or with a group, she will only listen to me. It sometimes frustrates my hunting partners that she will not obey what they need her to do, but I just laugh and say if u want a dog to hunt with that will obey u, get ur own...I got mine.
