Redding Comp. shell holders

Hi Members, my first post in a long time, hope got it right!
Am I able to use the Redding Comp. shell holders to adjust shoulder bump, with Hornady and RCBS full length die sets?
I am in process of refining loading set up for 280AI.
Thanks, Jay

I would think they would work just fine. Never tried them myself. Just use the rcbs holders and keep turning my dies down and keep checking the measurement with my hornady AOL measurement kit. Never measured shoulder bump till I had misfires in in my 35 rem 336. Now I measure all my fired brass in all my calibers and bumb the shoulders. I use to just follow the rcbs directions and turn down the die without measuring. Think they suggest 1 1/4 down from flush. I still shot 1 hole groups doing so.

Keep in mind that they are only "+". That is, longer shoulder. They're great for situations where you would have the die off the shell holder or only getting a soft cam. They let you have a die adjusted like that and still get a consistent hard cam over which means more consistent headspace/shoulder length.

I have never had an issue setting up a sizing die with a standard shell holder. I have both factory and custom chambered barrels. Not all brands of die have the same setup instructions, Redding die instructions are for MAXIMUM sizing(minimum SAAMI). I have one RCBS 223 die that sizes to my ammo checker dimensions(minimum SAAMI) without cam over. So even die of the same brand can vary greatly dimensionally following SUGGESTED instructions, especially considering only a few (0.008-0.010) thousandth of an inch can be the difference between NOT chambering and over working brass and having case head separation or failure to fire.

These are a better way to go. Set your FL die in the middle of thickness range, then you have the ability to go nudge your headspace to suit either direction.

Works fantastic when you have multiple rifles chambered in the same cartridge. Keep notes on which size you use for each gun, & never a need to change the lock ring on the die again.
