I am a novice when it comes to scope.
Is the Redfield Accu-Trac Widefield Lo-Pro 3 – 9 power a good scope for hunting coyotes? It would be mounted on a 22-250

I looked in a redfield revelution at the store. Pretty dang good for the price!

One guy on here has one and he liked it. However, he said it didn't track perfectly but it worked.

Another scope to look at for a similar price is a weaver. Something like the v series in a 3-9 or 2-7. Great value and solid reputation.

a 2-7 is probably better for strictly hunting coyote. a 3-9 will give you more versatility for haveing fun at the range or shooting smaller critters. Coyote hunting is more about FOV then magnification. Most coyote are killed within about 100 yards or less. Not that a 400 yard coyote doesn't happen.

FOr example myself and a number of other people have taken it to the extreme. I have just got a 1.5-5x20 leupold. a high end of 5 isn't much but the FOV is way more important when the dog is running full speed just 10 yards away. I have never even once used my old 3-12 at a higher setting then 3 when actualy hunting coyote. I only dial it up when target shooting. Its all preference so YMMV.

TripleDeuce,

When you say didn't track perfectly are you refering to maintaining POI when zooming? That would be an issue for me if that's the case although for the price I guess you are asking the scope to perform like a more expensive one.

I agree with you on the coyote shot distances, especially in my area.

That model is probably 12-15 years old when Redfield was located in Denver Co. They were pretty good scopes back in the day. The glass isn't going to be as good as some of the newer scopes but I wouldn't hesitate to use it if it's in good working order.

It was made in Denver. The scope is in excellent shape and priced at $200.00 I dont know weather I will buy it or look elsewhere.

$200 seems a little high, especially when you can get a brand new revolution for less than that.

Just my opinion, others may disagree.
