Reeds. How many different companies make them?

We all know that for the little metal closed reeds JC Products is the word in them. Every factory call I've ever owned and looked at on the shelf is stuffed with one of those little buggers. I've even called in a coyote with one that would no longer work in the body because of a split reed. Just stuck it in my mouth and blew my heart out and what little sound it could still make lured an old girl out of the woods and across the field into the path of my bullet. I notice, too, that even the custom calls being produced are based around this reed. I suppose that if it works why fix it. Are there any other manufacturers that put out predator reeds or other types of sounds and does anyone we know of use them? By the way, where do you gentlemen find the proper material for your open reed calls. I've tried replacing my worn out reeds with milk jug plastic to various other substances but they just don't make that terrible sound that appeals to them coyotes. Thanks, Christopher.

I use Critter calls, it I need one, I just call them and they will send me precut reeds. Or if I prefer, they will send me the material so I can cut my own.

Christopher,
J.C. products are the only ones who manufacture the metal reeds for the enclosed reed calls(as far as I know anyway). They have em in a wide variety of reed style, thickness and tone. Rocky Mountain Wildlife products (Crit'r call) offers a package which contains a variety of the plastic reed material for open reed calls. You may want to call some of your local plastics companies and ask them about "sample" sheets of polyester film (Mylar). I use the .015" thickness in my calls now. I have used .010" in the past, and you may want to get some of that size also. I hope this helps you.

Good point on the reeds Christopher... Here is an other question, who has the phone number to J.C. Products and the address.. I too can use a hole heck of a lot of reeds.
