reflex sight

Koh when you say 1:00 was that of the top of your scope or the rifle. It seems like if it was up high it would be prone to damage.

It was mounted off the top of my rear scope base and it actualy worked fairly well other then not being very waterproof.
If I were to do it again I would probably mount it out front on a rail at about the same position so I wouldn't have to twist the rifle too much to get a good sight picture.

I ran some ballistic calculations on mounting the red dot above the scope. Figuring the sight would be 2.5" above the bore, 60gr bullet at 3000 fps velocity, it doesn't look to bad?

50 yard zero:
Range Drop
10 -1.92
20 -1.38
30 -0.88
40 -0.42
50 0.00
60 +0.37
70 +0.70
80 +0.98
90 +1.21
100 +1.40

At a 25 yard zero your bullet would be nearly 6" high at 100 yards which isn't good.

Doesn't some body have this but your side rail are mounted at a 45

How did you get it mounted that low? The top of the Burris PEPR rail is 2.44", then you have the adapter plate and Fastfire body above that, which has to be about another inch.

Try using 3.5 inches and see how bad it is.

Once they're out about 60 yards, I'm going to be using my scope I would think.

You are probably correct at around 3.5"? I have a spare FastFire so I ordered the Burris rings so we will see. The calculations are just estimates and I will check by actually shooting. The thing that I found interesting is zeroing in closer makes the trajectory worse. I also agree that the useful range of the red dot will be limited but they are not much good at 100 yards anyway because 4 moa dot will cover 4" of the target anyway. Any smaller dot and you can't see it at 100 yds. Something to play with!!!

Here is the chart with 3.5" sight height, got much worse.

50 yard zero:
Range Drop
10 -2.72
20 -1.98
30 -1.28
40 -0.62
50 0.00
60 +0.57
70 +1.10
80 +1.58
90 +2.01
100 +2.40

There is also a rail above your scope too.

Within +/- 2 inches from 20 to 90 should work just fine on a coyote, if you hold right on the center of the lungs. On my X-ray target, the lungs are 6 inches deep just behind the front leg.

For shooting a coyote, IMHO, you'd be much better served with a quality low power variable scope that offers a wide field of view. Leave the reflex dot/scope combo side angle mount schmammy deals to the 3 gunners...

If you can't hit a coyote at 30yds with your scoped rifle, then leave it in the truck & bring a shotgun on stand. At least you are calling them in close, so you're doing something right!

Received the Weaver rings with the rail on top and mounted my Burris Fastfire. The red dot sits 3.6" above the bore. My 50mm objective on my scope is not in the red dots sight picture.

Today I took it to the range to test this concept and really liked it. At 25 yds it is 1" low and at 50 yds it shoots 2" high. Target acquisition was fast from scope to red dot by only having to lift my head slightly to look thru the red dot. I though it might look like a "Rube Goldberg" contraption but in my opinion it does not. After thinking about the trajectory I think I might be able to use the bottom of the dot at 25 yds and the top of the dot at 50 yds, need to test that at my next trip to the range. This setup should get rid of the problem of seeing nothing but fur in the scope!

Yesterday I started a very similar thread under Optics. My interests are for use with a bolt action rifle. Here are some photos of setups using a mounting system that looks interesting. The mount(s) are made by a company called SPUHR out of Sweden. It looks like it would work on lots of different platforms.
