reloading 9mm

When I'm setting up my dies for semi autos, I'll work with the crimp to the point that if I push down on the bullet in the case against a table top, it won't move without substantial pressure...Not full body weight, but not by wrist/arm pressure...

I don't know any other way to explain it, other than just having tried a lot of them..

im using the new hornady dies,the bullet seater can seat bullets and do taper crimp at the same time. is this ok or do i need to get a roll crimp die by itself.my c.o.a.l. is not consistent

Use a taper crimp for semi-auto rounds and a roll crimp for revolver rounds...I think you are still having problems with your die adjustment...If the bullet is seating at different depths, that's one problem...your crimping process needs to be adjusted after you get the seating depth correct...
 
so i should set the die up to just seat bullet to right depth,then back out the bullet seater and adjust the taper crimp next?

...That's right...It will take a little trial and error to get the crimp correct so you are not crushing the case into the bullet...so start slow...You only need enough tension that you can't push the bullet farther in the case by hand...

You really need to get a separate seating die, and do it in two separate stages.

You can get away with it IF you are using brass that is all the same make and lot - but 9mm mouth walls very a LOT, so the taper crimping is different with each case and you will get poor ammunition.

Every high end loading machine does crimping in a separate stage.
