reloading questions again for the 17 Hornet

I've tried H322,H335,Lil Gun with 25gr V-Max and 25 grain HP's and not real happy with the results. AA1680 is nowhere to be found. I've read Reloader 7 will work but can't find load data. I was looking at burn rates and several powders are close to some of the powders listed. I also was wondering, seeing how CFE and 8208 are great in the 223 and other small calibers, why wouldn't it work in the 17 Hornet. This is where my reloading expertise falls short. I hope some gurus will chime in and help me out.

AA2200 is what has worked best for me. PM me and I'll share some RL7 data with you. N-120 will also work.

That cartridge is a lot of fun with 20's going fast. I used W680 for years then went to AA1680 which has been very good.....accurate and about 3650 with 20's. Then VV120 turned out to be another 150+fps faster and just as accurate. Someone on here mentioned AA2200....I've tried it but not over a chrono, it's also very accurate in my rifles.

Been using H4198 and 20gr Vmax, 23gr Golds and 25gr HP with my 17 Hornet. I run about a tenth or two of a grain below max load. I'd like to try 1680 but haven't found any. Myself I wouldn't use any powder that doesn't have load data for that round. In that small of a case a tenth can make a big difference fast.

I've been seeing it around my area. Currently have 2.5lbs. I don't use it for 17HH though, it is solely for 300blk subsonic.

i had a couple pounds and used most of it up in the 300 blk. now i NEED it for the 17 ackley hornet. where in NM are you?

Hodgdon lists H110 for the 20gr vmax. Nothing to write home about though, topping out at 3301 ft/s.

Now I'm getting concerned. Tried Reloader 7 today and honestly the groups sucked. I took the rifle apart, check all nuts bolt screws mounts ect, everything is tight. Swapped scopes to a known good scope, cleaned the crap out of the barrel, went to the range and got 1 1/2 inch groups with all my loads, some were worse. Loads with a 25 grain Hornady HP and Remington 7 1/2 primers. Startd with 11.3,11.5,11.7,11.9. grains of Reloader7. I bought a pound of H4198 to try to see what happens next. The rifle shoots the factory 15.5 Hornady's pretty good but everything else is crap. Dang I love a challenge......If I don't go broke first.

Bullet weight, make, type, start load grains, start velocity ft/s, max load grains, max velocity ft/s max pressure psi and COL (in)

20 HDY V-MAX 11.7 3,203 13.0 3,553 49,669 1.711
20 NOSLER VARMG 11.9 3,297 13.2 3,606 49,934 1.720
25 BRG VAR 10.8 2,946 12.1 3,235 49,267 1.720
25 HDY V-MAX 11.2 2,930 12.4 3,223 48,714 1.711

I shoot the 20 v-max at 13.0gr, the 25 Berger at 12.0 and the 25 v-max at 12.3.

Tried the factory 20g V-Max when I first got the rifle. NFG! I was worried about copper fouling but have yet to pull any major copper fouling from the barrel. I used three different solvents just for copper. Work in progress! Always love a challenge.

In my experience different bullets, powders, and primers make a difference in the 17s. Finding the right combination for a particular rifle can be quite a process.
