I want to convert my slug gun with a rifled barrel to a shotgun. I am interested in the 21" rifle sights and remchoke for $199 or the 26" vent rib and remchoke for $260. Which one should I get? I like short light guns and was leaning towards the shorter barrel, mistake? I also will be replacing the choke with something more appropriate.

IMO it kinda depends on if this is going to be a calling gun or if you intend on blasting a few birds or clays occasionally. If there might be some wing or clay shooting involved I would go for the vent rib.

I would go with the 26" barrel, longer barrels are easier to shoot straight and they swing smoother.
I also like the way the end of the barrel is past my feet when I am sitting or laying down.

I have a 21" vented rib remchoke barrel for my 870 had a 28" barrel on it for bird shooting that was ok but for predator hunting and deer hunting when u can be in cover i find the 21" a whole lot easier to swing and quicker to get on target, just what I found.

For strictly calling or turkey hunting between those two lengths I'd probably go with the shorter one. I don't know why we don't see more mid-length barrels between 22" - 24" offered for this application as they seem to be about perfect.

Thank you guys for the help. I ordered the 21" barrel with rifle sights. I don't do much wing shooting, if I did I would of went with the 26". Since I'm replacing the barrel I decided to splurge a little and ordered the Remington Shurshot thumbhole stock and forend. The recoil pad on the original wood stock is hard as a rock. The new pad will feel great. I also got some Truglo fiber optic sights. Lastly and probebly the most important thing the "CHOKE". I admit I am not much of a shot gun nut. I did not know my chokes at all. So I researched here and on the internet. I became more knowledgeable.

. Mod., full, extra, .700, .680,.665, yada, yada. I know I wanted a tight choke for coyotes. I was just going to get a factory choke or DC and start from there. At the last minute I changed my mind when I saw a Patternmaster. I did not research the Patternmaster but heard great reviews for #4 buck, which I will be using in 3". What the heck, I was a bit confused cause there was no size or traditional rating on the package. I ended up getting the Long Range Ported. On the package it stated that it uses studs. I guess that is why the traditional ratings do not apply? Did i get the right one? I will post some pictures when i get the order in a week or two.

Thank you to my wonderful wife for buying this for me as a Valentines gift. She got a nice piece of jewelery in return.

I have the same barrel for my 11/87 SP. Works great with Dead Coyote for calling, and with slugs and a rifled choke tube for deer and hogs. I replaced the remington sights with Williams fire sights. Easier to see.

SureShot Stock is amazing I think they should make them for rifles. i love it on my 870. i have a turkey barrel, slug barrel, and long vent rib barrel for mine. Will never need another shotgun
