i have a 597 rem in 22cal.it jams all the time.dosnt eject the emptys then turn sideways and gun will not cycle.i have tried tearing down and good cleaning didnt seem to help, also tied cleanning clips, and changed clips, still no differant.any know what else to try.

This can be caused by some different things. Make sure that the twin screws at the back of the receiver are just finger tight. If not, the bolt can bind on either of the two rails that it rides on. Is the magazine the "new and improved" metal version? The plastic version was trash when new and Remington has been replacing them for free. There's more info here:

Hope this gets your rifle up and running. MI VHNTR

i think its out of warranty.the clips are metal.the to rails are held in by set screws i may have them to tight, what would be finger tight useing allen wrench, would just putting screws in enough to get the reciever back into stock work.

Yes that will work, the factory sends them out to tight.

bobeano: I had a 597 with the same problem , I sent it in to Rem. 2x and it still fail to fire right so Remington replaced it with a new gun and it still was crappy so I sent it back after I talked to one of their gun tecks,it ended up that they recut the chamber as it was messing with the cycling. That was two years ago and it shoots fine now . O'yeah the first gun was one of the first guns when they first came out. All this cost me nothing but time and frustration. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
