Rem 700 BDL custom deluxe 17 rem

Guys I recently purchased a mint Rem 700 custom deluxe in 17 rem that has the enhanced engraving on the receiver and floor plate. I bought from a long time friend who doesn't predator hunt, but had to have the beautiful rifle. He bought it new in late 90's shot it to sight it in and never took it out again. It's never been in field. I know the history of the gun as I grew up across the street from him, and have dreamed of buying it for years.

Now the problem is this. I have it and I am too reluctant to hunt with it due to being the one to put a scratch on the beautiful gun. I hunt very rocky hilly terrain and damage and scratches are guaranteed. If I can'take myself hunt with it, I don't need it. I'm having ideas of selling it or trading for another old remy like a 788 or similar. What would selling value or trade value be as described. I also have 80 rounds he purchased with the gun and rcbs fl dies. It has a Simmons aetec 4.5-12-50 scope and Leopold rings and bases. The ammo has price tags of 14.58 a box for remy green and yellow. (Those days are long gone)

Any help or suggestions would be of great help with my delima. Thanks

My 2 factory Rem 700 in 243win are from the late 80's -90 era. Love 'em.

My ADL was around $350 and my BDL was $450 IIRC. Wish I had a pick up load of them for those prices.

Nice as it may be, it's not Krieghoff with AAA Claro or a Stradivarius violin for crying out loud. It's a 500.00 BDL (tops).
Take it hunting like it was designed for.

I have one just like it, a good quality firearm will stand a lot more abuse than you think it will, go hunt with it, that is why they made them and why you own it.

I was in the same boat a few years back. Bought a Sako Vixen Deluxe in .222 for $1,200. Didn't want to modify it at all, any kind of replacement stock was big money. It was just too pretty to hunt with. If it bothers you that much, sell it to someone far away and buy something you can use. If they wreck it, you won't have to see it.

unless you're a gun collector, take that thing hunting. You'll be glad ya did about the time ya kill the first critter with it. Besides, that wood is replaceable...

I have the same model in .222. Beautiful gun. Mine only comes out to the range and occasionally in the field when I know I'm not going to bang it up.

Luckily I can afford to have one I don't need shoot alot.

LOL,isn't that the truth? Enjoy it, it's just used factory rifle.

Can you show me the stockpile of .17 Remington engraved 700s you have for $500. I would like to buy a few of them. (Most on GB go for almost 3X that.)

I agree with this, and with Tim's comments as well. I do have guns that I worry about beating up, but a recently made Remington is not one of them, nor close.

I'll tell you what also: The guns I have put some "character marks" on, are the guns I like best and use most often......
