mine has the original stock still un touched sitting in my reloading room.but it is on its second barrel, and i could put it back in the stock and it would look brand new. too much fun to not use.i found a cheap syn.stock and bedded it,it now has a pac-nor barrel on it that is what i did and never looked back.i take it a part and clean inside even set it back in the stock,i did this to my model seven also it has a great stock also they had great looking wood then.you can't not shoot it,it might become your favorite

Now you're talking.
Be sure to post up some pix of any critters you take with it.

In January I was in Houston for a few days, so I stopped by a very large gun shop there. I have a couple of friends who shoot 17 caliber rifles who have been jolting me to get one.

As I was looking through the used rifle racks in this shop I ran across the exact same 17 Remington 700 BDL/engraved receiver & floor plate rifle being discussed here. It is in pristine/like new but used condition without the original box. It has never been scoped. And the wood on it is far better IMO than the wood shown at any of the links on this thread.

Anyway, $525 plus Houston tax and I was out the door. I also ran across three bags of 17 Rem brass for $38+tax/bag in another place, so I picked those up too. The guy in that shop said he'd had them for more than a year. A trip to a local haunt near where I live turned up 5 boxes of 17 caliber 25 grain Hornady HP bullets, so I guess I'm in the 17 caliber business. I bought dies from Midway.

I haven't messed with it or shot it yet as I have been doing other things. Maybe later this spring. I guess you pay the price you find, and the prices might vary a bunch, apparently. To be honest, I've never found a good deal on any gun on the internet, so I never buy off of it. Besides I like to handle and look before I buy.

Just my 2 centavos.
