One of the guys that sell me seafood came in tonight and told me he was sighting in his Rem 7600 pump. He had shot the last two of his old 150 gr core loket so he opened his new box of 150 gr Rem Core Loket. The first shot blew up the gun and made it unusable. It blew out the trigger group, blew out the bolt and now the barrel is bent down at the receiver, cut his hand and dented the hood of his truck (his rest) Here is a picture of the rifle

Any sugestions what to do now? He is a honest hard working family man and this was his only rifle.

It always helps if you tell the details in a question - like who's ammunition was it?

Sent the rifle and the remaining ammo (with box) to Remington and have it evaluated. They will be fair and are the only ones that can give a definitive answer to what happened.

Then send it all into Remington and let them sort it out. In the past, my experience has been that they are straight about this stuff.

Yep. They will take care of it. Maybe that ammo was miss-charged or something strange like wrong powder, etc. from the pics, the rifle was, seemingly, otherwise well taken care of. Chit happens! Call Remington and demand they pay the ride. Make sure the ammo goes with an ORM-D label!

Is it an 3006 or possible

REMINGTON, 7MM REMINGTON EXPRESS CALIBER

RECALL: Remington Arms Co., Inc., has announced the recall of defective 7 mm Express Remington cartridges which were manufactured in September and October of 1979.

Remington said the defective cartridges may produce higher than normal pressures which could damage some firearms, and which, under some circumstances, might cause personal injury. The company also recommended that fired cases from the ammunition not be reloaded because of possible adverse effects.

The 7 mm Express Remington cartridges covered by the recall have the following markings on the packages:

Caliber: 7 mm Express Remington

Bullet: 150 gr. Pointed Soft Point "Core Lokt"

Not to burst your bubble.....Buuuuuuutttttt Remington is going to ask 100 ???????'s which is fine. How, What,When,Where. Really, [beeep]. You might get lucky and they will send you a different rifle...Far stretch [beeep] IMO. A friend blew up his 700 22-250 and they said it was non repairable. Good Luck [beeep]. Makes a OK fencepost..Good Luck.

I think a new gun is in order. I start off a little suspect in a deal like this. The correct ammo was used? The bore was unobstructed? I know it's 2nd & 3rd hand info but it's not common for a gun to blow up for no reason when the proper ammo is used. Not saying it can't happen.

I doubt the ammo maker would be in a hurry to replace a gun for free unless the ammo was known to be defective.

You would be amazed at how fast a gun maker will replace a firearm....

I've had defective guns replaced in 10 days, no questions asked.

I gave him a copy of the recall notice that was provided by a member and the lot #'s match the ammo he purchesed. The recall was issued on May 18th and he bought the ammo from Cabelas on Aug 8th. The case that he fired looks fine. He is going to call Remington today. He checked some of the same ammo in a local store and it too was some of the ammo that was recalled. I am very surprised that Cabela's did not remove the ammo from the store.

one of the guys in the gun club blew up the same model with hand loads, and remington gave him 1/2 off on a new replacement rifle, sent to him from the factory.

He proceeded to ruin 2 other guns in his collection using the wrong powders...never was the guns fault...but Remington still honored at least part of it....

Since it was factory ammo I am betting they will make it right and then get after Cabelas for not honoring the recall Good luck to your friend

IMO, Cabelas should have a foot put up their rear for having that ammo on the shelf.....

Its not that hard to publish the "limited" number of ammo recalls to all the stores and pull said ammo...[beeep]

I had a new 700vs in 22-250 that had improper headspaceing and blew the case head off the first round I fired from it.. They sent a new rifle no questions asked...

Im sure since it was their ammo and rifle they'll take care of him....

They ask him to send them the gun then they called him and Remington told him they would replace the rifle and the bullets.

He just told me today. He seems happy with their decision

Cool. I had a Rem. 1100 barrell split in the 80's while trap shooting. Rem made me buy a new one and told me it was my fault...something was obstructing the barrell. Ten years later they were sued in a class action law suit for defective barrells and I got a small check from the lawsuit funds.

True, but it would have been nice if they hadn't of sent out batches of over-pressure ammo, too.

Major QC problem.

That has happened with any and every manufacturer. With the human element involved, it happens. We've even had a whole lot of m193 recalled for the same issue.
