Rememberr when?

Speaking of truck prices......I bought my first new vehicle in 1965. It was a 6 cyl. plain Jane work truck, 6 cyl, heater, HD radiator, posi trac diff. Price was $2,145 tax, title, license plates and 1 year insurance. Drove it 15 years and sold it for about half that.

Today, you can can't even get insurance by the year.

Going to the tavern and getting a bucket of beer for my great uncle. Walking a block back home with the beer in one hand and a bottle of orange soda in the other. I don't remember the price as my uncle had a tab at the bar.

In college a glass of beer was a dime a shorty bottle $.25 and quart bottles were a dollar. One bar had nickel night, glass of beer for a nickel and another had "Stein for a Dime" and would fill any stein for a dime, More than once my boot came into play as a stein, only the first one tasted a little odd after that either the boot was washed out or I didn't care.
 
I had concerns of dating myself when I posted in this thread but feel much younger now.
I do remember returning beer bottles by the case for 50 cents to buy hunting stuff. Now glass is worthless to recycle.

I remember when 22 was under $1 / box. As I recall, that was a lot of years ago.

I also remember when you could go into a store that sold ammo & actually find it. That wasn't that many years ago.
 
Well, I only go far back to remember when regular gasoline (not unleaded) was $.63/gallon, mom would get $5 of fuel and get 8 gallons! My first (only) Ruger 10/22 was $169 at Service Merchandise stores.

I also remember buying 9mm 200rds for $20 and lost my mind when ammo shot up to $7.95/50 rds! I paid $379 for my Ruger P89DC and was fortunate to get it just before Colin Ferguson shot up the Long Island Railroad with the same gun using Black Talon bullets. Had "High capacity (15rd) mags" and then all heck broke loose in NY.

I've posted this before in the 2nd amendment forum: start ordering your BCGs, lowers, uppers, mags, etc NOW. A complete upper in 5.56 is $335 from sota arms with free shipping. Complete rifles from Palmetto are dropping, for Easter they had .308 ARs for $720 and complete AR15 for $499.99. case in point, $449 free shipping

This next election cycle will be pure misery if the Republicans don't get their act together and get behind a candidate as a group. Think ammo and parts were hard to get after Newtown and the last election? Invest in a reloader and start buying components before the half-wits at BATF start this whole M855 ban talk again. It took one comment for the price of ammo to jump a few weeks ago. Has it come down again?

I was in a hardware store last week and they had a brick of remington .22 shorts for $59.95. I even offered to sell them some of my federal .22lr for $45 a brick and they thought I was crazy.
 
Remember .22 sold separately and shotgun as well. Remember saying if gas ever hit a dollar I wouldn't buy it. 5 cent RC cola and 5cent candy bars and the candy bar was big enough to save half for later, but a dime was hard to get. When my daughter was born I made 400 a month working six days a week. Picking up pop bottles to get the dime. Plug tobacco was 23 cents and cigs were 35. The pot belly stove at the store in winter and the stories the old men told which dated back into the late 1800s. When the cars got the big fins. When baby calves wouldn't bring anything. When tobacco brought 30 cents a pound on the basket. Smelling the redrier all over town all winter. A box of oranges at Christmas. New shoes once a year at school time. We have had a long run of good times for the most part.
 
when i was in the army a carton of cigarettes was 1.10,gas was still 22 cents a gal,and the first box of 22-250 ammo i bought after i got home was 2.99 i bought them until i had 150 brass and started reloading because i did not like the factory bullets.made 3 or 4 dollars an hour and always had money in my pocket.my 72GMC 4x4 sierra truck cost 4260.00 out the door.and no one stole from you,you could leave the keys in the car too.i am glad i am not 20 years old in this world we live in today.
 
Ah I remember well 1970 was my first year of Trapping and Coon Huntin. I was getting $2.75-$4.50 for Muskrats in the round and Coons brought $15 for a small one and $30-$40 for a big one got $2.50 for Opossum, $20 for a Mink, Red Fox was $30-$40 and not a sign of a Coyote in Indiana. Dad bought a New Ford LTD for $3200
And you and your date could have dinner at Burger Chef and a double Movie show for $10
$2.35 an hour plus a .10 cent night shift premium and always had money in my pocket. I wish I could go back 45 years and know what I know now..

Yea, I remember the days before Lee Harvey Oswald. My Grandfather was a rural mail carrier and I used to ride with him a lot in the summer and on snow days when school was closed. I remember delivering guns that were ordered by mail, to customers on his route. I also remember when you could order baby chicks through the mail (mainly from Sears, but other places too) and the mail carrier would deliver them to you. As a matter of fact, you could order most anything from Sears, including ponies. I don't think my grandfather could have got one of those in his car though. LOL.


I remember when my grandfather worked for the post office he was ISSUED a revolver. Surplus 1917 colt .45acp. Every few years he would get a few hundred rounds of "old" ammo to "dispose" of. Great fun blowing through all those free .45s.

 
hm...I pumped a lot of gas back in the mid '50s for $0.139 and the calculator above indicates it should cost $1.21 in 2015...Now I feel cheated with the price I paid a few days ago ($2.28) on a discount program in which I'm enrolled..

But to be fair, I was working for $0.75 per hour and that would equate to $5.95 per hour today...My retirement is a little better than that...Based on a 2080 hour work year..
 
the cheapest gas I recall was in 1970 or 71, before we got shipped over seas. San Antonio TX, gas was $0.20 or so / gal -as I recall that was full service & often you got a free glass or some such with a fillup- and on weekends they had gas wars that would drive the price down to about $0.17 / gal.

Wow!

$25/hr in 1996 would be $37.80/hr now. 1996 is when I graduated high school and my Mom made $25/hr with a certificate. I don't make much more than that with a B.S. nowadays.

I need to move!
