Remington 1917 30-06 anyone?

No discoloration on cases or bullets. The electrolysis was between the bullet and inside of case neck.
I only discovered the problem when I decided to pull a few of the 173 gr. FMJ bullet and seat some 168 gr. SMK's (the MK's are a much better bullet than the arsenal 173's, especially @ 600 and beyond). The bullets made a "cracking sound" when they broke loose from the neck on some rounds, but not all....not conducive to good accuracy

.

You may not encounter the problem w/your ammo, but if it does not shoot well, it's worth taking a look at that possibility.

I owned a customized Eddystone back in the '80s, but I am a lefty and it was not, so I sold it. The point of this is that I shot 58.5 grains of AA 4350 behind a Speer 165-grain Grand Slam, and the rifle would cloverleaf that round at 100. I seated the bullets up tight (~.010" off the lands), and it really performed. Probably one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned...

Did it have the stock barrel?

I shoot several 1917's. One has a scope the others have the orig. peeps. Most of mine shoot 180's the best. The scoped one still shoots 3/4 inch groups anytime. Everything original except the ears were cut off and scope mounted. A friend and I shoot steel at 400 yards with the peep's. Other than being as heavy as a boat anchor they are a very good hunting rifle.

If my memory is correct 4895 was the powder that was used in WW2 ammo. I have used that plus 4064,4350, 4831 and accurate 2495. All have worked in mine.
