Remington 3 inch #4 buck patterning

I picked up 50 rounds of Rem 3 in #4 buck recently and decided to test this morning. Decided to pattern these with my Benelli M2 12 gauge with a full(.695) and x-full(.685) Carlson flush chokes. At 60 yards(72 paces) I set up a 4x4 3/4 inch treated plywood as the target. I started with the full choke and it gave me a roughly 30 inch pattern with 2-4 inch gaps distributed evenly and POA. Next, shot the x-full choke and it produced roughly a 24 inch pattern with 1-2 inch gaps, same as above POA. I realize the distance was 60 yards but would anyone consider this a 50 yard yote killer? On a side note pellets cracked the backside and half or more fully penetrated, which to me was amazing! Thanks all for looking.

Looks like you have a winner. I also have a Benelli M2 and the 3inch Remington #4 buck is its load of choice. Using my factory full choke I got similar results. Buy a case of it now and be done!

jcs271, Yea I wasn't sure it would be acceptable, looking at the topic(detailed and heavy) some of the guys were pulling off 12 inch patterns at this range and wanted opinions on my experience yesterday. Thanks bro

Sounds pretty good to me! At typical shotgun ranges of from 25 - 50 yards you should be able to wreck some coyotes. My nickname for my old Benelli M1S90 is "HAVOC" because it is certainly pure death for any predator unlucky enough to get caught by it. One of the dictionary definitions for havoc is; a situation where there is much destruction. Shotguns are just cool in the thick cover.

Good to know, "x-full(.685) Carlson flush chokes", did well.
Just got it & haven't tried it yet..

curious Davey, what's the barrel length ?

Fortunately where I work they were disgarding several sized plywood sections, they were pretty rough with paint spills but no cracks.

curious Davey, what's the barrel length ? I am a lefty so when I ordered mine they were marked down from 1550 to to 1350 but out of the one I wanted(26in) , I settled with the 28 inch. For some reason the leftys were alittle higher but then again I had to have the camo 4 model, hehe

love the gun's name I bet HAVOC has mowed the grass a few times on its pass to a alpha male haha.

Not bad at all , thanks for sharing these. I have heard of guys using .675 or tighter for #4 buck and DC but never tried unfortunately. BTW nice DC pattern

My shotgun also likes that round. And being a pa resident #4 buck is the largest we can use. When i tested them the remington and hornady #4s both performed the best.

Any of you shooting #4 buck have any luck with a more tight centered pattern vs my evenly distributed 24-30 inch patterns at 60 yards? I know that this is a extreme distance but wanted to strive for that yardage being my max. Currently with my above pattern tests .685 constriction has gave me the best, distributed spread over my .695 and .705 chokes. Would a .665 be to far of a cry for tight centered patterns? Thanks

Despite all the manufacturers and blue sky shooters claims, 60 yards is a long long poke for a 3" gun. Consider this...

Thank GC for opening my eyes(great example in you diagram) those do seem to be little circles to poke several holes in! What brought this up about a tighter choke was I glanced at a Primos turkey choke in .665 that had a 24 dollar price tag but is an extended choke plus it seems too tight for #4 buck. Being stubborn on barrel length(mine is 28 inches) I really don't want an extended choke to hang out another 2 inches,😉
