Remington 40x worth

I am looking at a Remington 40X .220 Swift with blued receiver and 27 inch stainless steel heavy barrel. Black synthetic stock.

How much is a new one and what would a used one go for?

NO WAY !! Go on benchrest.com and click on "classified",click on rifles and check what the prices should be, heck you'll be able to buy a custom action, custom barrel and trigger for far less than that and in a cartridge that will not tear the throat out in 750 shots... it's your money but it's too much as in way too much... Also check out Shooters Corner.."THE LIST" tons and tons of custom equipment on it...HECK, you could build a better rifle off your 700 action for less than that.. your action, $150 to true it, $300 =150 for barrel anc chambering, $150 for a trigger and $300-400 for a new custom stock.. it would be new, in a better cartridge and it would shoot better in the right caliber/cartridge..YOU can spend your $2000.00 much better!!

I'd be very concerned about round count with that barrel.
If the barrel is about at the end of it's useful life, what you're buying is a 40x action, and stock. Look at spending what Frank mentions for a new barrel.

I'm with Frank and Martin on this. I would not pay 2K for a used 40X especially in 220 Swift. I would have a rifle built for that kind of money with a fresh match grade barrel. I have seen a few 40X's that were very average in the accuracy department.

PaPa 260

Most of the used 40-X's I've seen, unless they were customs or had a bunch of special items sold for around $900.00, give or take.

Have you seen any of the pricing from the last handful of years. They base around $1800 and go up

I found one at a gun shop and they want $1200 for it. I'm not to sure on the round count so I am going to pass on it. I am going to keep a eye out for one but I am just having a hard time on weather or not to build / buy new or buy used. I think for right now I am going to just hold out unless something just jumps out at me and says BUY ME!!!

Thanks for the help.

When the asking price for a Rem 40x action exceeds the price of a BAT, Borden, or Stiller action, I would go with the custom action. The 40x action is a good action, but for the same price, the BAT, Borden, and Stiller are better.

I would have to agree with that.
