Remington 513T question

Seemed to have aquired one of these this week-end and have a few questions. All answers and opinions are welcome.
First off, is there any "Real" collector value? I see quite a few, so I say maybe not to much?? The bore is brite and shiny and first few rounds fired showed very good accuracy. The stock is in very good condition but looks to have 40 plus years of grime on it. If I refinish the stock, is it going to kill the value or possibly raise it a little? The metal is decent, no major rust or pitting, but could use blued if one wanted to spend the money. I mainly bought it for a shooter but dang its ugly. I'd like to purdy it up but don't want to trash the value.
Thanks-pyscodog

psyco,
the heavy barrel version seems to go for $400-$600 nowadays, depending on condition. The sporter is a little harder to find and it's usually worth a little more.
Most of them are good shooters, but the trigger is the weakest point.
The military had thousands of them as "trainers", and a BUNCH have been sold through the CMP program. Those are stamped "US Property" on the top of the receiver if I remember correctly.

If you scrub the stock using Mineral spirits and 4 ought ( 0000 ) steel wool...you'll be amazed at what it will look like when you are done

I had its little brother...the 521 YEARS ago and the stock was the same way`. many many layers of linseed oil and DIRT...lol

My dad..the First Sargent.. ( actually) passed away in late 69...so it must have been about 1967 I had that rifle.

I don't think the 513's are collectible, but they are great little entry level target rifles. Refinishing won't hurt the value any IMO.

Wish I had a penny for every round I fired through one

Remington used the same action on several different models. My first rifle was a 510 single shot version given to me in 1945 (#&^* has it been that long?). I taught my wife, son, grandson and granddaughter how to shoot with that little rifle which I had shortened for my son and put it in a 513T stock, installed Redfield aperature sights, forend stop, making a very neat single shot, miniature 513T. Grandson still has the rifle.

Any light surface rust (that you can feel when you run your finger over it), can be easily removed without any damage to remaining bluing as follows:

Keep surface wet w/any good oil and, using a round bladed screw driver press blade firmly against surface while rubbing back and forth. Much better than steel wool, which will also remove any bluing as well.

Great little rifle, enjoy!

Regards,
hm
