Remington 700 ADL

I have the option to buy a Remington 700 ADL in a 270 Winchester. It is 20 years old and has had a couple of boxes shot through it. It is rated at 98 or 99%. What would be an average price to pay?

You can get a new 700 ADL at Academy with a Synthetic stock for $379.00-$399.00 plus tax.

I assume 98-99 % is external and you haven't looked down the barrel with a bore scope ?

Do you know the person that owns the rifle or have you shot it ?

Do you have the serial number, wood with checkering or laminate ?

Without seeing it: $250-$375

The ADLs from 20 years ago most likely have a walnut or laminate stocks as compared to the plastic ADLs of today.

It has a walnut stock with checkering. Very clean. Yes I know the Gentleman. He purchased it for his father 20 year ago and just a few year ago his father passed away. He has since stopped hunting due to age. He has offered it to me because of my son and my passion for hunting. This gentleman is an old machineist. He offered gun for me to shot and see what it can due. I'm just not a 270 fan to be honest.

I agree that the .270 is a great caliber for whitetaail deer. Rifles like you describe tend to have a $350 price tag on them in the gun shops around here.

I have an older ADL made circa '89 with the walnut stock in an '06. While it is not my most accurate rfile, I can say that the wood to metal fit is much better than what I see today. One other item I always check is how well the bolt mates to the receiver when camming/extracting. Many Remington bolts need to be retimed due to not having proper extraction. My older ADL camming is much better than my Remington made circa '05. Lastly, my older ADL hits the primer dead center every time. There are no off center, primer strikes. Just a few things to check out.

I have noticed that the Remingtons made the last couple years (having the stamping on the receiver on the bolt notch) seem to be made and are more true. The finishes on the other hand are something that need to be replaced.

Good way past 300. Got several DRT antelope and deer 400 - 550. Buddy dropped a moose at 400 with 130 grain core lock with one shot. Awesome cartridge for everything most of us are ever going to shoot.
