i have 700 .223 that i had in storage for while. took it out cleaned it, shot it and the shell was stuck. i had to knock it out with a rod. the casing had marks of pitting on like rust pitting. looks like i need a new barrel. what other size round can i have installed with too much modifying? and how much can i expect to pay for that kind of work?

Take a old cleaning rod section, screw on a brush, wrap with steel wool, saturate wool with gun oil, and spin it in the chamber with a drill. Unless you have heavy pitting, this should fix you up. I would think what is sticking your case is dried oil, varnish, or light rust, not heavy rust. It's worth a try.

Rebarreling with a custom barrel will run $400+, more if you have any action work done. If you can find a good new factory take off, you would be talking $150+ installed.
