Remington 700 Short Action extended floor plates

Anyone else tried these $20 magazine extensions.

These extended floor plates give you a magazine capacity of 9 rounds. On some individual rifles, you can have nine plus one in the chamber for the .223 Remington. I find it comes in handy in the dog towns. Sometimes they need a little custom fitting to be just right. They may not be legal for hunting in some states I believe. The Midway link gives the details.

It's gotten mixed reviews on the Midway site... most of the older ones are negative and the more recent ones are positive... so maybe there have been some upgrades to the product,,,

I'd like to convert mine to the detachable magazine type, but can't justify the cost to do it...

I'd like to convert mine to the detachable magazine type, but can't justify the cost to do it... I am with you on that. I just ordered a Bell & Carlson Tactical M40 stock for my Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 223rem. I see Wyatts has them for short action in 243,260 and 308. Wondering if they had one for 223rem? I now HS Precision has one for 223rem. but is recommened for their stock only? Was wondering if this might be the ticket.

I have had my mag extension for over a year now and it has worked perfectly since I did a little filing on it in the beginning. The cartridges feed without a hitch and it is nowhere near the cost of the detachable magazines(which I also like).

That's weird...I remembered this A.M that I'd forgotten to include that floor plate extender in my latest Midway order. I, too went with a B&C Rem. stock, thereby negating the (expensive) option of the HS det. mag, although they claim "with fitting by gunsmith" (we know how that goes) the assembly will fit other stocks. Wish Remington would get on the stick and offer more detachable boxes; they are quite handy. But this might be a next-best option.
Thanks for the thread and info.!

The extended floor plate still functions the same as a drop floor plate. It uses the same magazine follower spring and hinge pin from the standard floor plate.
