Anyone out there have any experience with this rifle in .223? Have been considering one and am wondering how well they shoot. One other question. The 700 XCR has a hinged floor plate, does the Model 7 Predator have a hinged floor plate as well?

Both have hinged floor plates.

The XCR CT has a 20" barrel vs. the Predator's 22", a PMD coated stainless action and barrel (predator is CM, covered with camo film), a better stock, better trigger, a little more weight and a lot more dollars. Looks like a VERY nice rifle if you've got the dollars and don't mind a 20" barrel.

I have an rem LTR in 223 wich I believe is the same as the XCR just an older version.(XCR newer) Mine is a shooter just a little on the heavy side when walking long bistances but I don't mind.

Well, I don't have the .223, I bought a used .308. The previous owner put it in an LTR stock, and I love it. Topped it with a Leupold Vari-x III 6.5x20, and it shoots great with my loads (Varget, 165gr BT). I took two deer with it this fall (145yds,270yds) and centerpunched a small coyote (275yds). The rifle is a bit unbalanced when carrying on a sling due to the heavy, short barrel, but I can live with it. Gets worse when you put a bipod on it. I have stock pack on the but to raise the comb up a bit. Trigger is good, barrel cleans easy.

I have both the .223 and the .308 in the XCR compact tactical I have a leupold 4.5X14 mark 4 on the .308 and a 2.5X8 leupold on the .223
Both sub MOA and are easy to handle and shoot. I personally like short barreled rifles some people don't, but I do like the rifles.

I plan on using this rifle as a calling gun. Do you fellas think the heavy barrel inhibits fluid swing and follow through on coyotes? I'm currently using a Remington R15 with an 18" barrel which is quite handy and quick.

The XCR CT is a great gun. I looked at one in .223, but decided to go a different route for the price. I think it would be a great calling gun for you. The stock is good, trigger is fine, and it's a coated stainless action that you can always reuse to build off of later on if you wanted to go custom. I'm not trying to change your mind because the XCR is a great rifle, but have you compared it to the Savage 10PC (Precision Carbine)? It's a short 20" heavy contour barrel in .223 & .308. Comes with Accu-trigger and Accu-stock for about $600-$650. I have one and it's the "best" calling rifle I've ever had. Oh and yeah, it shoots!

Trevor, Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into the Savage. It looks like it has many of the same features as the Remington. Does the stock feel substanial? The only Savage I've handled the synthetic stock felt chinsey.

I bought one a few months ago, so far I really like it. Great factory trigger, points and balances well, really rigid stock especially on the forearm. Also to be noted is the TRiNyte finish is a PVD coating and is EXTREMELY hard and durable with stainless underneath it, as impervious to the elements as you can get in a gun.

The negative from the factory was the first half inch of the muzzle end of the barrel was really scratched up on top of the rifling, and the crown had burrs on it that were stripping pieces of jacket and fowling terribly at the last 1/2". This wasn't a big deal to me because I bought it with the intention of re-crowning and threading it anyhow. I had Darrell Holland cut it by 1/2", turn it down, re-crown, and threaded it for the mount. I didn't shoot it for groups before the suppressor mount was added so I can't say what it would have shot.

I just finished bedding the action, and texturing the stock with Marine Tex. I added a little AAC love with the Skull/Spade from their Blackout logo.

So far it shoots MOA or better with most loads I feed it, but the 1-9 wont stabilize the 75 Amax, or 75 Berger VLD but it seems to like the 70 VLD just fine.

Specs are:
XCR Compact Tactical in .223 Bedded in Marine Tex, Leupold 4.5-14x50 TMR, Badger base, Nightforce UL low rings, Harris 6-9 With Pod Claws, AAC SPR/M4 Suppressor borrowed from my Noveske SPR.

All groups are 5 shot groups at 100yds, shot prone from a bipod, suppressed, then the suppressor removed, cooled and remounted each group.

Also to be noted I have only worked up loads for the Berger 70g VLD, the last two pictures.

The accu-stock on the Savage 10PC is fair/good. It's night and day difference over the basic "Tupperware" stocks that are on the non Accu-stock rifles. Yes, eventually I will change it out for a McMillan HTG, but it's certainly doing the job right now.

The 700 LTR (original version) in .223 is my main rifle now.

I shoot a Black Hills 60 GR Vmax bullet in mine and it holds groups consistantly around 1/2". i hope to have time to work up a load with the Sierra 65 gr Gameking someday.

i tried the savage too but the 700 just felt "better".

I have a 308 LTR, one of the older versions with detachable Mag. and a XCR in .223. Both 20" tacticals. To make it short, they are sub MOAs. Both are my "go to" rifles. Both hold consistant one hole POI year after year. It is nice to have confidence in the rifles. One heck of a tool !

My XCR compact likes the 60 grain V-Max blackhill ammo. I have not put hundreds of rounds through it but it is not hard to keep it in the .5 to 1" groups off my leadsled. Did not group the lighter stuff well.

What's the best method to attach a kill light to the XCR? I'm considering one of the flashlight types and don't really want to attach it to the scope.

It has medium wide bottom to it. It does flair slightly at the forend just ahead of the bottom metal, but not too much from the rest of the stock.
