Found a couple Remingtons locally one for 300 scoped and one for 275.00 no scope? I havent heard much on these, worth the money or stay away?

I personally think they are a big, huge, wart on the nose of Remington...with that said, I have heard that the 770's are better than the 710's.

I have handled and shot several 710's and they were put together very poorly. Reminded me very much of a toy, clunky, bolt not very smooth, very, very cheap feeling stock. The one I helped sight in shot around 1.5 to 2" at 100 yards--OK accuracy I guess if you didn't want to shoot at anything much farther than 200 yards and your target was at least deer sized.

If you were thinking about spending the money you are talking about, you might be better off saving a little more and getting something of better quality.

I'm sure someone here will say they get sub MOA groups with their 710/770 as long as they do their part......

I am currently storing a 770 in .243 for my nephew while he is overseas in the sandbox. I have shot it and the rifle is at best O.K. If you need a loaner, or want a rifle to shoot a couple of times a year I suppose it would be perfect for that.

I've heard the same. I suppose I'll stick to my Savages for now, havent really had any issues with them yet. They also shoot MOA .....if I do my part

They ship from the factory bore sighted and with the scope. If you're looking at one w/o it, it has been removed for some reason.

I picked up a 770 .270, stainless and camo, new at wally world for about $250. It was a manufacture repair, some idiot at the counter had put the magazine in backwards and then beat on it until it went in. $10 part and 70% off once returned. Too cheap to not buy in todays market.

I bought dies, components, did up about 75 rounds and never fired it once. I decided the .270 was too much of an overlap in all my hunting rifles and I would end up using it just because I felt I had to. I ended up pulling the scope off of it and sold the rifle at auction for $650. I would do that again every day of the week

The scope lives on my loaner .243 now.

However I did a bunch of research after I bought it and found 2 definite reviews. 1 set by people that owned it and said it shot just fine, good for most hunters. The 2nd set by people that had never shot/owned one and said they were junk compared to the 700. A bit of an unfair bias IMO.
If you have no experience, don't complain.

Personally the biggest detraction would be the feel of the bolt. It does not use the same system that most are used to, and it ends up feeling very rough and sloppy when open. According to remy it does provide for a very secure lock once it's closed though.

With everything I've read and from owning it, I'd say that for the price it's a decent deal for a 1st time hunter or a sometimes shooter. Both of those would really be poorly served by spending 2-3 times the price for a 'good' rifle as they may never hunt again or actually take up shooting. I'd 2nd the 'backup' and 'loaner' position in the case for an active hunter/shooter.

Yeah I was considering one in 300 win mag for the once a year that I might get drawn for a big game tag. The other is a .270 but I figured my .243 can do pretty much everything the .270 can do. So basically it would just sit in a closet and get used(if im lucky) once a year. I guess my other question would be accuracy, obviously i wont be shooting PD's with it but i would like to have it group well at distance.

I drew a tag. Bought the 770 at a local sporting goods shop. Shot a deer. Sold the rifle.

I had it in .30-06. Good loaner gun or truck gun that you don't have to be worried about scratching, etc.

The one my friend has in 30-06 is starting to have bolt problems. The bolt is getting hard to open. He's only had it a year or two.

And the Savage action is reusable. The 710/770 actions are throwaways.

I have a 710 in 30-06. is it a 700, by no means. the bolt feels super cheap. I painted my stock with plastic primer and flat spray paint. It still has the scope that came on it, 3-9x40 bushnell I think, and it shoots a 1" group from 200 yards, consistently and I wouldn't trade it. I have a mdl 700 7mm rem mag, much better quality, but shoots the same.

I work at Gander Mountain and have handled nearly 100 of these atrosities. I can't believe Remington would ever want their name to be associated with these rifles.

2 major problems with these rifles.

1.Many, 25-40% that I handled, don't have a properly fitted magazine. Out of the box! The mag sits to high catching on the bolt head. Not allowing the bolt to be opened.

2.When bolt is open. To close the bolt, STRAIGHT forward pressure must be used. Any pressure applied toward the bolt handle instead of the bolt itself will bind the bolt in the action.

My advise if you own one of these rifles is to put one round into the chamber, throw out the magazine, and kill your deer with one well placed shot. Because a follow up shot isn't likely. Better yet trade it in for a Stevens 200 or a Marlin XL7. Same price, way better rifles!
