You all did see the

icon, right!? I certainly do not support this view.

I really want one in 44 and 30/30...not too sure why.

I can get a Stevens 30-30 easily, but I'm really wanting the 788.

You can actually make a real decent load out of the 30-30 with pointed bullets sinces it's mag fed.

Quote: My dad has one in 308. I think I will try and talk him into re-chamber it into 243 or 260 Remington

That will require more than a rechamber. You will need a barrel too.

I thought rechamber was to something bigger and the same caliber not something of a smaller caliber.

Might as well just go find a .243.

I have a 6mm 788 that I bought in 1976 brand new for $79.00. It now wears a Richards walnut stock and an ER Shaw heavy sporter contour 24"barrel. It will shoot five shot groups 1/2" or less as long as I do my part. I had a 788 22-250 that I sold five years ago to help put a Rem 700 6mm together, I wish I had kept the 22-250 as it was a 1967 model with a factory walnut stock.

I traded a 80 dollar 22 pistol for a 788 in .223, one of the best trades that I have done.

It is very accurate, I did put a timmey trigger on it. It shot very small groups before the
trigger, now its easier to do so.

I've had 788's in 243 and 6mm and they were both shooters. I have seen crazy stupid pricing on them at gunshows the last few years. But the one I should have snagged was the 44mag NIB that a guy had about 25years back, at a gunshow in Fremont Ohio.

But he wanted 400$ for it and the fact that it was NIB just didn't mean that much to me.

Would have made a great little deer gun though.

Remington 788 Cal 22-250 Ackley Improved - Glass Bedded, Free Floated Barrel, DuraCoat in Coyote Brown and Black, Custom Trigger , 3X9-40 Scope.

I like both your rifles but really like the stock on this one. What kind is it? Looking a bit closer, is it the factory stock DuraCoated?

Factory stock DuraCoated. Both rifles are wood stocked.

Many people have been beaten or killed for making such a comparison. Whatever retard said that is to be ignored here on out.

Remington's 788 has the fastest lock time of ANY bolt action rifle. I know a lot of old timers around here that use them, Mostly in .222 rem. I'd love a .17rem or .243

You dont see them for sale very often and they sell for around $600 up here in good-great condition.

I seen one years ago in 22-250 with what appeared to be a medium sporter barrel, really nice stock, not sure if somebody customized it or if it came from the factory that way but it was nice.

Got a few ........

My first, a .22-250 has a Canjar single set trigger ....... until the barrel gave out ... it was lights out with it's best load.

I have more barrels to try on that one ........

My second ........ a .243 needs a trigger ........ I think I have $160 in it so far ........

My third ....... a .222 needs trigger work and is not accurate yet ...... got $269 at this point.

That lock time is the deciding factor on these in my opinion!

Three 44s

We never heard back about the .17 Rem pictured. Apparently they never made a factory .17 Rem.

Sorry yellowhammer, I guess I assumed you knew I rebarreled that one. It started out as a rusted, pitted 223 that shot better than my Ruger 77 223. I had the barrel removed and a Van Horn 17 Rem. barrel installed. Same contour as the factory 788 barrel, but finished at 20" instead of the factory 24".
The stock I took a belt sander to and got rid of all of the wood that didn't look like a stock. Stuck a little Schnabel on the end of it just for the heck of it. Installed a Canjar single set trigger but later swapped it out for a Timney. I reworked the factory trigger but could live the 3lb. pull. 2# pulls work better for me. I pillar bedded the action and floated the barrel and shoots very good, but in comparison to my 17 Rem. Kimber its a tank, so it sets at home a lot.

Just bought a 788 in 308 and another in 223. Got a line on another 223, as well. Quote:Heaven, I'm in Heaven.
