I have a Reminton 700 SPS Varmint in .223 (w/ a heavy barrel).
A .223 is short action, but is it a ADL,...... or is it a BDL because it DOES have a floor plate?/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
What's the diff? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

BDL if it has a floor plate, ADL's load from the top.

They both load from the top - the BDL's unload from the bottom /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually the SPS is neither an ADL or a BDL, it's an SPS. Don't mean to be a smart a$$ but this is Remington's budget rifle with the cheap plastic stock and low grade metal finish. But they do come with a floor plate. I've owned several ADL's and never liked the idea of having to run each round thru the action just to unload. Much safer with the bottom floor plate and a big plus on the SPS. I've bought 3 of the SPS rifles in the last few years and all have been okay for the money. The stock is just a P.O.C. but they work and, once again, the price was right.

So if its neither and I was going to buy a new stock for my SPS does the BDL fit?

I would say maybe or maybe not!?!? Actually I would think that either the ADL or the BDL would work. Only thing is the ADL you'd have to cut out for the floor plate, not that big a deal.

IL hunter, Your SPS with bottom floor plate will interchange with a BDL of the same barrel profile. It will also work with a Classic, or a CDL stock.
I never liked the shiney stock on my 700 BDL. The rifle shot great and I loved hunting with it, so I refused to not use it. When the CDL came around I snapped up a new take off CDL stock and in 5 minutes turned it into a CBDL.. No more reflective stock to spook off coyotes.
