Remington Model 600

Quote:
Two friends have them, one in 30-06 and the other in 6.5mm Rem mag. Very nice guns and both are shooters, but you dang well better be wearing ear protection !!

RC is right, the bolt release is very tricky. Unless someone shows you it'll take forever to find it. Bad design in my opinion, you need a small screwdriver or a slim but strong knife blade to release it, and good eyes.

They've achieved some collector status and the value is steady increasing.

Remington didn't make them in 30-06. These are a short action and the 350 Rem mag and 6.5 rem mag and of course the 308 was the longest cartridge they could fit in the action.

If you ever run across one in 223 pick it up. They are rare and worth a good bit... I passed on one in 1995 for $400 and I kick myself every day for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Also seen one re-barrled in 221 Fireball... the guy wouldn't even talk to me about a sale! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i found one in .6mm at the local gander mountain 2 years ago for $250. i refinished the stock and had a good friend offer me $400 for it. since learning what i had, i'm trying to buy it back from him.

Thanks Guys, I'll pass on the info to my friend, with the exception of the recoil, I wanna see it myself with him not knowing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Also thanks about the bolt release/screw driver thing, I looked at it for awhile and didn't know how to remov the bolt, but now I see it tucked in there along the bottom of the lug rail. I assume just push it down out of the way? and just slide the bolt back in when finished cleaning?

I have a 660 in 350 rem Mag that I use for EVERYTHING here in Alaska.Wouldn't trade it for anything. Also have a couple of 600 Mohawks in 222 rem ,308 win and 6mm Rem they are here to stay for me

I bought a 600 in 223Rem in 1966, thought it was so ugly I had the rib removed and the square forend reshaped. I used it to hunt fur and due controle work for forty years. I finaly shot the barrel out of it and had it rebarreled to 6x45mm and it is still my go to rifle for fur hunting.

I sent mine into have the trigger done in the 70's and they put a very nice adjustable trigger on it, breaks like glass and will adjust lower than I could ever want on a game gun.

I have to agree with you AWS, they are really ugly rifles. Some may think they look good, and they're entitled to their opinion, but to me it's plug ugly. Almost so ugly as to attain some sort of "cool looking" status, LOL. So ugly it's cute. If I'm not mistaken the ones I've seen looked like the rib was attached with sheet metal screws.

Don't get me wrong, I wish I owned one, have tried several times to by the 6.5 Rem Mag one of my friends owns. Being ugly doesn't disqualify a rifle from being a good shooter, look at Savages, hehehe. I've had some ugly dogs too and still liked them. Don't think I ever had an ugly girlfriend though, not that I can remember anyway, maybe for one night but that's about it.

Your 600 looks great though, nice facelift!!

My friends 6.5 Mag, the one I want to buy, is particularly ugly. It has some sort of laminated stock that looks like layered Walnut and White Pine, coated with some kind of epoxy or something, really nasty looking.

You got it!
The reason Remington put the bolt release tucked inside the action was because it was made to be a saddle gun for Western guides and ranchers that wanted a little more punch then the standard leverguns. They didn't want anything that could catch on a scabbard, that is also why the bolt handle is shaped the way it is. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

A cousin of mine has one in 243. I don't think he will ever sell it. Anytime one gets to the gun stores around here it doesn't stay long.

My 600 was a 222.
Been rebarrelled to a 17 Mach-IV.
And no, You can't afford it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

SEE! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Once you get one, ya just don't want to let them GO!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, the 17 Mach-IV in that gun is a fantastic chambering! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif That would be a GREAT kitty round! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

I know where there are two of these for sale. One has been camoed and has a burris scout scope on it the other is plain. I think both are either 6mm or .243. Both are in good condition. A friend of mine bought out a gun collection from the family of a collector that passed away. This collector had good taste, he would not have bought them if they were not nice to begin with. Drop me a pm if ya want me to hook you up with one. I can send pics. Y'all got me fired up, I might have to have one. Now if I can just find some $$$$$.
