A guy I work with has a Remington model 700 in 300 win mag that he is looking to sell and I was just wondering if any one has one of these how does it shoot? I have not seen the gun yet but he is going to bring it in tomorrow, he said its in pretty good shape just a few marks from getting packed around. I had been planning on getting a Savage in this cal but it sounds like I can pick this gun up for about $350 so if its in the shape he says I will probably go for it.I figured for that price I had room to spiff it up a little if needed. What do you guys think?

For $350, it'd have to be in pretty rough shape for me not to buy it....

I've had a couple of 300 WM's, both have shot extremely well.

I have a 700 stainless in .300 Win. Mag. Very nice rifle, plenty cartridge for most anything you would want to hunt.

If the guy's rifle is in decent condition, you need to jump on that price. You can always get your money back if you ever decide to sell it.

Considering Rem. Magnum LA, I'm talking about just the action and trigger, typically go for $375 on up, I would probably buy it just for the action alone.

I have an OLD M700 in 300 Win Mag.SS barrel. great shooter.
But the action is glassed and the barrel is free floated and a Timeny 3# trigger.

Take it to a gun smith and have him bore scope the bore, If he says it is good GRAB IT.

Worth putting another barrel on it if it isn't a good bore.

i bought one a month ago, shoots under an inch at 200.it is my long range carry gun now.the jeweling was still on the bolt so it haden't been shot much.rem's are great guns the price is great also

Thanks guys. You all gave me that last little tiny push I needed to buy another gun. Now I will just need to sneak it into the safe before someone else see's it.

Update. The guy brought it in today and told me to take it home and shoot it and to see how I liked it. I told him everything looked good to me but I would take him up on his offer. Looks pretty much like he described so I am happy with that, you just never know until seeing in person. Looking it over theres not much wear in the action so thats nice. Action has some rust spots on the outside but no big deal for a hunting rifle. One more question though the barrel is stamped stainless steel, do all these guns have stainless barrels? Here's a couple pictures. Scope will be a little extra if I want it to,(older VARI-X II 3x9).

It looks decent for the price tag. I've heard that most of the older magnums were SS barrels because they handle the pressure better compared to the chromoly of the day???

Looks like a good pick up. With a little elbow grease, it outta clean right up!

Trav,
I think you got a great deal on the rifle!
It's one of the "blue stainless" models that were made for a short time. One of my hunting buddies has one, and it's the only one I've ever seen.

Have Remy 700 classic in 300wm that I've had for several years now, it is in a Hogue stock and had a Burris scope on top, with myhand loads it shots one moa our less out to 450yds.love that gun, i say buy it
