Remington Model 700 VTR / .204 Ruger

Str8 Shooter

I've been keeping my eye on this rifle and heard good things about the .308's in the same configuration, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the .204. I'm looking into a rig for prairie dogs and a backup gun for coyotes... this one has caught my attention. I was thinking about locating an LVSF in .204 but I don't know that the light fluted barrel will hold up to high volume p-dog shoot. I was also wanting a rig that will allow me to easily see the hits on high power. The heavier rifle w/ muzzle brake should do that?

I'm shooting a CZ Varmint that weighs about 8.5 pounds scoped and I can watch the hits thru the scope. I don't think that you will need a muzzle brake, really light recoil from these. This might have to light a barrel for high volume PD shooting. I saw where some folks are putting water jackets on the barrels on the net somewhere.

I have yet to see a CZ that won't deliver exceptional groups, you might look at them. I shoot a Rem 700 VLS, but it's in 243 and won't group with the little CZ.

I took my LVSF in .204 to a PD shoot last spring and got kills out to 500 yards. The wind was hard to work with and never tried any further shots. Fired about 700 rounds in three days. I believe it shoots better now than when it was new!
