Remington R-15

I have one in the 204 flavor also. It shot 3/4" groups at 200 with the first scope I had on it. It now has a coyote special and well....lets just say it doesn't punch paper all that well with the reticle but it sure as [beeep] will kill some dogs.

I didn't like the way the factory collapsible stock felt loose so I thought I would try a fixed. Now its got a magpul ctr. That really tightened everything up.

I might drop a trigger in it next year as its a little stiff. Can't complain much about it because it is nice and crisp, just a little stiff.
 
Did you send your Rifle in with the replacement Trigger in it? I have read on other sites that Rem will not do warranty work on Rifles that do not have a Factory Rem Trigger in them. Even the Triggers that have had Gunsmith work will be replaced. Unless it's done at a Rem facility.
 
I have 2 R-15'S both 18" with collapsible stocks. The first one I bought had a bad trigger in it so I replaced it with a timney trigger. The second one's trigger was very good for a factory trigger. They both shoot 3/4" or less moa at 100 yds. I haven't had any problems the camo coming off. I also own a Bushmaster predator and it shoots better than the Remingtons. In my opinion the Bushmaster is a better built gun but I like them both.

KYmailman98: I am a long time Remmy fan, but I have stopped using their ammo because of repeated quality issues.
 
I was wondering with all you that own R15's (.223) and that do handloads what were ya guys best formula for bullet/powder/primer/brass/size? Thanks!
 
New load Im doing.
27gr W748, 55gr hornady JSP w/cann, any SRP, any brass, COL 2.230".
This puts them in at 9/16" to 1" @ 100 yds.
 
Great thanks there buddy! I've been messing around with H335 21.5/22/22.5/23.2gr, 55gr VMAX, 7.5 Remington small primer, and Remington brass, COL is right around 2.248-2.258"... I've only played with about 100 rounds with the H335 but found out had problems with the scope so made up some more to try out the range.
 
I'm loading 26.5 gr. of W748 and 25.0 gr. of H335 with a CCI 450 primer for 55 gr. bullets.
Not an R-15, but they've been tested in 3 ARs and 2 Mini-14's.

I'd say your H335 load is pretty anemic, but you're doing the shooting. You may want to run a few across the chrony.
I'm getting long brass life and no pressure signs at 25.0 (which is right at mid-load in the Speer book).

If it's accurate and you're not short-stroking, though, it's not a problem.

Thanks Evil_Lurker ya you can say I'm playing a little safe and all, I will load a few with 24gr and 25gr and see what happens, in the Hornady book says 23.2 is max for the H335 with 55VMAX and just want my brass to last as long as possible and barrel also.
 
Take it up slow and see where it groups best. As long as it's locking the bolt back, you're in an okay range.

I'd never go past best accuracy to get higher velocity.
Your barrel's not mine, though, so don't assume you won't see pressure signs using my load.
I don't THINK you will, but that's pure specualtion.
 
I will see what happens with the 23.2 loads and how they land on paper and just go from there. How long should I wait for the barrel to cool down for doing 3 shot groups or even 5??? And should I clean the barrel after 3 shot groups or how many rounds down the tube do I need too??? Thanks new to handloading and I'm no bench shooter either, I'm pretty sure yall can tell, lol...
 
How many rounds do you have through the rifle now?
If you don't see a bunch of copper when you clean it, I'd just go ahead and shoot 100 between cleanings.

I shoot 5 and walk the target, then shoot 5 more.
If you can see each hole, I like to keep a target beside me and number the hits, then I get an idea of whether the barrel strings and where the cold-bore shot hits.

That's really the only one I'm concerned about for hunting.

If you're not walking down to the targets, have a Camel between groups. I've found that's plenty of time for the barrel to cool.

Right around 300 rounds been down her so far. No signs of copper yet, I'm pretty religious on cleaning every time I shoot it, even its 1 round to 60 I give her good cleaning. I tear it completely down after 100-150 rounds. Thanks for the advice and I guess I will just have my old lady smoke one down for me, lol.
