Im thinking of buying one of these rifles in 300 win mag for an Elk rifle. Ive got a place on my property I can shoot out to about 800 yards for practice and load developement. My question is do you guys think these guns are accurate shooters? Maybe some of you have owned or still own one. I know that MOA would be plenty accurate for elk but Id really like to end up with a rifle shooting a little better than that especially for long range target practice. thanks in advance for the input.
 
Very capable rifles in capable hands. I would reccomend a good bed job and a light trigger in the 2lbs range. I have had several Senderos and all were way under MOA. The 300Winny is a proven performer. HAPPY HUNTING
 
Thanks for the quick reply ruger, thats great news to me but I thought that since they come with HS stocks with the full aluminum bedding block that would eliminate the need for a bedding job, am I wrong- I usually am so dont hesitate to correct me here-thanks
 
I wish I could tell you, I bought one 2 years ago and I have yet to shoot it. There is a 1000yrd range not far from my house. I have seen guys out there shoot a 18in steel plate at a 1000yrd repeatedly with a factory sendero.

I have had a couple and have no complaints. My current Sendero in 25-06 shoots pretty dang close to the couple of semi-custom jobs that I have out to 700-900 or so... Good enough for me as it has always been sub MOA performance.
 
Bedding isn't something you have to do but I do it on all my rifles. I don't want anything moving or being able to move. It just gives me a sense of comfort and knowing a good rifle will more than likely shoot even better with a good bedding job. HAPPY HUNTING
 
I have one in the 300 ultra an had to have it bedded. I had only 40 to 50 rounds down the tube an took it apart to lighten up the trigger an noticed it had scuff marks from recoil. The bedding took care of it.
 
I had the exact same rifle. Bedding the stocks with an aluminum V block is needed 90%+ of the time.

I added a Vias muzzle break and I could shoot 1/2" groups with a 180g Nosler Ballistic Tip, Rem Brass, 75.5g of R#22, Fed 215 primer, bullet seated to kiss the lands at 3050 fps.

300 Winchester is brutal to shoot for pleasure if it does not have a muzzle break.
 
Bought one the first year they came out in 300. Wouldn't shoot in a grapefruit a 100. Had a trip to canada in 6months. Remington told me they would look at it but would not promise back in the time I needed it. Now is a Messer 7mm STW. One hole gun if I do my part. Sure it only had a bedding problem but I had to much money tied up in hunt to take a chance on No rifle and just a backup gun.
 
I've had a handful of them around here and they all shot very well. Everyone is right about the bedding, even though it is an aluminum block they are still mass produced and not married to the action. A skim coat is all thats needed
 
I have a pretty good selection of big game rifle but the Sendero is often my first choice. Mine is a .300 Win mag and it is the only rifle I have not bedded. I'm not sure what it will do on paper but in the field it is capable of some fine long range accuracy.
My only complaint is that by the end of a day carrying it you may wish it had wheels. Senderos are not known for their light weight.
We have used this one for everything from prairie dogs to elk.

I have 2 of them a 25/06 and a 264WM. Can be abit heavy for all day carry, but IMO very accurate with a little work. Like others have said ,work the trigger skim coat, work up some loads and have some fun. Ive been thinking of adding the 300RUM but havent found one around here yet.

That is a very accurate gun . How ever if you want to shoot an elk at say 600yds and beyond i would choose a 7MM Mag with a Berger 168gr. VLD bullet it is very capable of 6'7'800yds. You can also check out the LR 1000 at www.GunWork.com That is a tweeked out Remington Sendero SF II.
 
My buddy owned one and never could get it to shoot decently. He's an excellent shot, too, so I'm 100% certain it was the rifle.
He tried a bunch of things to improve it (but didn't recrown the barrel) and never could get it to shoot. He finally gave up and sold it.
He bought it used, which always made me wonder if it was bad from the factory or not. Now somebody else has it and I'm sure they're not too happy either.
 
I think there are two issues with the 300 Sendaro I would be concerned about; one is recoil, and the other is weight.
As someone mentioned above, a 7mm Mag would be my first choice. I have one and recoil is a non-issue. But, the 300 is a shoulder banger. Never owned one due to recoil, but my buddy has one and I shot his.
I'd personally think about a lighter rifle in 7mm Mag.
And, there's nothing wrong with a 308, or a 30-06 either. Both will do an Elk.

Recoil is no differrent than a 308 Sporter because of the added weight in the Sendero. These are not a light weight rifle folks.
Now the new Sendero II's with the fluted barrel might be lighter, but the original Sendero is plenty heavy enough to tame the 300's recoil.

I did however sell all my other 300's like a Ruger M77, 700BDL and Win 70 because they were too hard on the shooter. My old M77 boat paddle all weather was brutal. 10 rounds and anybody will have a shoulder bruise... not to mention the stock recoil pad signature marks on the shoulder for at least 2 days.

Is mine a shooter... you bet. Easily Sub-MOA.

I've heard rumors that during test firing the best barrels are used for PS and PSS, and the next best were installed on the Sendero. After seeing many used I have to agree... but I guess some of you have had a bad one.
