Remington V3 Field Sport

If you've tried one of the new Remington V3 Field Sport, please share your thoughts. How do they size up for a semi-auto predator shotgun? I know it's not one of the favored 3 B's, but just curious.

Thanks in advance!

I've had one for a year. I was looking for a dependable waterfowl auto and it was between the V3 and the SX3 and the V3 fit me better so I bought it. I really like it, the only complants are shooting trap with light loads I will occasionally get some powder in the eye since the ports are right in front of the receiver and the other is that the front bead broke off somehow while duck hunting. Also watch the front of the shell carrier, mine was a little sharp when putting shells in the tube. It shoots straight, patterns well, feels good, and hasn't malfunctioned. Recoil isn't bad either except with the Hypersonic.
I don't use it for predator hunting, but it throws great patterns with Black Cloud 4 shot and BB at 50 yards with the factory IC and Mod chokes.
It does only come in 26" or 28". I have the 28" and kind of wish I would have got the 26" just because I'm used to a shorter barrel. I bought mine for $720. So far I would buy it again no questions asked. I have had 4 Benelli's and still have 3 so I know they are built well and easy to clean but can jam like everything else.

Thanks for the feedback, crowslayer! Very helpful... Any problems with gas blowback on 3" shells? Front bead sight should be replaceable with a fiber optic type, correct?

I've heard that Remington plans to release more models - with a 24" barrel coming eventually - but who knows when that will be.

The only blow back was with Rio trap loads which I just buy at the course, so it may be those shells and I haven't tried any others yet. No problems with any brand of steel 3" shells at all. I haven't shot any 3" lead since I basically use it for waterfowl.
I did have the bead replaced with a fiber optic, unfortunately the original is pressed in and couldn't be removed so they had to drill and tap it. I think it was around $40 including the new bead. I don't think this would be a common issue though since I've never even heard of it happening before.

IIRC several people reported the gas blowing back. It was a defect in the forearm. Remington fixed it for free. Might try reading about it on shotgun world.

I will add that they have a lifetime warranty. I would try one if I did not get an sx3 just before it was released. Hope they bring out a 20 ga.

Thanks for the heads up. I did some reading and it sounds like they will probably replace the barrel due to the gas ports being misaligned. This causes gas to escape from the gap between the forearm and barrel and is the blowback being felt. Too bad I didn't know sooner I would have had a new bead too.

In case anyone has been interested in this shotgun, Grabagun.com has the synthetic black 26 and 28-inch models listed at $509. With shipping that's just less than $520. That's the best price I've seen by almost $100 since 4 months ago when I started this thread.

Picking up my new Remington V3 Field Sport tomorrow. Probably won't take it out to start patterning until the weather cools off, or I have a weekend morning I can get out early. Anyway, just excited and wanted to share.

Sure thing... soon as the boss stops eating up my entire weekends with home improvement projects, I'll have a chance to get out and pattern it.

Just so you know, Remington is currently offering $100 mail-in rebate on the V3. If you buy it through GrabAGun.com, that's just over $450 by the time you pay shipping and a transfer fee.

I know nothing about the A300, but I've heard good things about Beretta semi-autos.

Price matched at Bud's and have a 26" camo on it's way to Lexington. $645 cash. Minus mail in rebate and I am in Stoeger M3000 price range. Can't wait to get it. I already have 200 rds. of pheasant and turkey loads, and 150 rds. of dove on the way.

Right on, Dust! Let me know how you like it. I've also stocked up on some #4 shot for wascally wabbits and #4 buck for yotes. Not an upland game hunter, but maybe some day.

I picked up 100 rds of Herter's Pheasant Loads in #4, 100 rds. of Winchester turkey in #4, and have 1 box of Remington #4 buck.

I would have bought one instead of the 26" if they had. But it would probably be 22 or 23" knowing Remington.

Just a thought but why dont you guys look at used 1100's. Get a plain barrel, they are cheap, and cut it down to 24" or what ever (dont cut a ribbed barrel as it will shoot high) and have it choke tubed in your favorite flavor and go from there. The 1100 has been around for a long time and frankly, is a better gun then Remington's current stuff. There are mag extensions for it and all you need to check is the "O" ring.

Just a thought from an old guy.

Finally had a chance to get out and pattern some Rem 4 buck this past weekend. I was using the included factory full choke. Will try to get pics of the patterns posted within the next day or two to the shotgun pattern test results thread here.
