I ran across a NIB remington VLS 6mm today in a local gun shop. I am curious is that caliber is a limited run or special order because on the remington website it is not offered in 6mm. The price was a little high at $1200 and the msrp is around $1050 so that also got me thinking it might be a limited run. Anyone know anything about this. Its a good looking rifle. Thanks for any info.

I was gonna say "buy it now"....until I saw the price. That's a ripoff. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a slightly-used one like it at a dealer for 1/2 that price a while back. I'd offer the guy 800 bucks.
That chambering might be in demand to a point, but most in the general shooting public will opt for the arguably "inferior" .243 Win., if only for the availability of fairly-accurate ammo. And don't believe the old wives' tale about the Remington 700s having slow twist varmint-only barrels; only the early ones did.
For less than $1200 a person could rebarrel a 700 that has the correct bolt face dia. and action length.

Yeah, that price is pretty high to me as well.

Several years ago Remington made a limited run of the VLS in .17 Remington. Only a few hundred of them I remember. I never found a new one for sale but a year or two later I found one on Varminter.com ANIB for $500! The guy had mounted a scope on it and shot it few times and then lost interest in it and decided to sell it. I was a little apprehensive about buying it at first because I was afraid that he was selling it because it wouldn't shoot but for sure, that's not the case! 5 shot one holers with loads it likes.

I really like the 6mm and prefer it over the .243 but pretty sure that price is a few hundred dollars too high.

Yes that price is high, he is asking that probably because its NIB and Remington might have stopped making them, I seen one in a local shop new probably 12-13 years ago for $529, I had a 700V in 6MM back in the day and it was a shooter, unfortunately house was broken into and it was taken.

So does anyone know if the 6mm is a limited production run or a special order? It is not listed as an option on the remmy website. Thanks.

Brett

It was probably a limited run way back when, meaning they only produced so many a year compared to the 22-250 and 223 etc, I haven't looked at there website in a while but it wouldn't surprise me if they have been discontinued.
