Remington1187 SPS vs Benelli Super black eagle--RECOIL

I'd like to use the HeviShot in 3 1/2 shells, but the problem is that in the past I tried 3 1/2 lead outta my 1187 Super Mag. with murderous consequences on my shoulder and cheek.
That being said I was looking at the Benelli commercial where they say that the recoil is really soft compared with 'other' shotguns.
So I was wondering whether any of you had tried the Benelli with 3 1/2 shells and if the differential in the recoil is such that it would be worthed for me to trade in my Remington and get the $1,400 Benelli Super Black Eagle.

Now I know Benelli are really sweet guns and there's more to them than the reduced recoil, but at this time I'm only interested in the kick reduction with magnum shells. If I can shoot these shells and the recoil is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than my Remington, then I'll get it, if not it'll remain on the shelf waiting for a wealthier buyer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif...

Thanks and God bless... D.

Which Benelli model are you looking at? My M1S90 is an inertia operated system. Not a gas opperated system. Recoil from it is more substantial from it than my Remington 1100 (gas opperated) shooting 2 3/4 #4 buck loads from both guns. The 3" #4 buck shells from my benelli are not real pleasant to shoot and am glad mine doesnt handle 3.5" rounds. I have several frinds who are water foulers that shoot Benelli SBE and SBE II. They love their guns, but can tell you that recoil is less in a gas operated weapon. Just my 2 cents worth and with inflation, you owe me 5 cents.

Thanks Crapshoot,

I think SBE II, was what I meant. But that answered my question entirely. I'll stick with what I got.
My check is in the mail...

(Thank God you're not from overseas, 'cuz with the weak dollar I'd owed ya even more money...)

Again thanks and God bless... D.

By the way, if I was to add a ported choke will that give my shoulder a break, somewhat?
I was on NTWF site and they are raving about those Rhino chokes... Thx! (There'll be another nickel coming your way...) D.

I am an avid waterfowler, and have shot a lot of different shotguns. I don't care what the Benelli ads say, they kick harder than a 11-87. If those are the two you have narrowed it down to, get the Remington.

However, my Browning Gold kicks less than both IMO. I can shoot 3.5 loads all day and not notice the recoil.

I have to chime in on the notion that the Browning Gold is
a soft shooter, but...

I have a Remington 11-87(3") and a Browning Gold 10 ga. Both
bump you with lead and steel magnums, but pull the trigger
on a Hevi-Shot turkey load, and that puts new definition to
"bump". I have some Ballistic product component Hevi-Shot
reloads, in both the 10 ga., and 12 ga. The 12 ga. are fairly
comfortable, as heavy magums, and rifled slugs, go, but the
10 ga. puts one heck of a whop on the shoulder. When I was
pattern checking the loads, I made the mistake of only wearing a
sweatshirt. That round hit me so hard, I started inspecting the
hull, for signs of pressure, and the gun for damage. I even put a
caliper on the barrel to check for bulging at the choke. I have
NEVER had a shotgun hit me like that! So I put on a jacket,
with a shooting pad, and fired a couple more pattern check
rounds, and decided that the turkey was dead out to 50 yards,
and I didn't need to shoot more than a few of those Hevi-Shot
10 ga. rounds per year! I did kill a tom that hung up at 53 paces,
so there is a point to all of the pain! I can say that when I pulled
the trigger on that tom, it was the first time I have ever noticed
recoil, with a properly shouldered shotgun, while actually hunting.
So, my experience with Hevi-Shot is that stuff KICKS!
I would not look for much relief in any shotgun, I think even my
28 ga. would thump me with Hevi-Shot!

Squeeze

Keep in mind that the benelli(7.1 lbs) is about a pound lighter than the 11-87(8.1-8.2 lbs). This is why the recoil feels harder in the SBE-II. If you can carry a 10 ga.(11 lbs) you are much better off. I'm a little guy and will take recoil over carrying the extra weight.

Last year I purchased a Benelli Legacy 12ga. 28", I use Briley ported chockes and that gun has the recoil of a 20ga. Its signafintaly lighter than my old Winchester pump, so I'm not really sure what bgoldhunter is saying. I say go with the Benelli, the sweetest, smoothest, fastest autoloader shotgns out there...and second, a Beretta.
