How this all works:
The purpose here is to offer a high quality, custom fitted barreled action at a price point that makes it affordable to a broad market. When reaching to a broad audience the available options have to narrow up a bit. Failure to do so will result in this whole effort failing miserably. Because of this harsh fact, please note that the options are being limited to what’s been listed. There are some exceptions however.
We have over 100 chamber reamers in our inventory covering a broad spectrum of popular cartridge combinations. As extensive as this is, I know there’s going to be requests for wildcats. We have no problem chambering your rifle in a cartridge outside of our inventory of reamers. The official LRI policy on tooling is for the customer to source and purchase the reamer and GO gauge from Pacific Tool and Gauge.
We will use the tool to chamber your rifle. If it is a cartridge that we feel is popular, the offer will be made to split the cost of the tool by offering a discount on your total bill. Agreeing to this means the reamer becomes the sole property of LongRifles, Inc. The total discount/split will never exceed 50% of the reamer and GO gauge’s cost. In layman’s terms it means we’ll knock off around $75 from your total bill and keep the reamer.
Please! do your homework and research. The internet is a vast resource of both good and bad information. I do not profess to know every cartridge in existence. Being chained to a telephone discussing the latest “buzz word” cartridge only means that delivery schedules end up delayed. Help us help you by keeping this to an absolute minimum.
For a Group Buy to be successful there must be a level of transparency. What this means is everyone involved has to know the rules have visibility on the level of participation. If you are interested enough to participate then you MUST do so right here on this post/offer. All you have to do is respond to this thread by noting the quantities of what you plan to send us:

Example:
“Gunnut99”
3 receivers for accurizing
3 barrel jobs
2 muzzle threads
3 bolt fluting
1 barrel fluting
3 ceracoat

Please, keep it that simple. There’s more than enough opportunity to answer specific questions. This is ONLY a roster. This sole purpose is to gauge participation so that everyone knows where they stand on the pricing. Save your questions for later please!

FORMS:

I am in the process of generating a comprehensive GB form. It’s going to take a few days to get it live on our site. Don’t worry. It’ll be there. You’re not missing out. The important thing right now is to show your interest by responding to the thread so that we can gauge the participation level. Once the form is live you’ll be able to fill in your information and specific requests.

Please do not blow up my PM box with questions. Everything we are able to offer in this GB has been listed in detail. If it’s not here, were not offering it. The intent is to get the Hide Community shooting this summer with good equipment, not torture each other with long delays due to ultra specialized applications.
Barreling. If you have a custom action and just want it barreled at the reduced rate, let it be known by joining in the GB. No one is restricted from participating in this regard. The same goes for ceracoat work.
Processing work through the shop; it’s going to depend on efficiency. We are going to let this “soak” for a good while. Hopefully it’s so popular that the lowest price level is met soon. The sooner we get good visibility on participation the sooner we’ll begin taking in the work.
We are a large facility. That being said the shop is quite cozy due to all the equipment resources. Having 200+ barreled actions show up at once would be a nightmare to process and regulate. It’s how mistakes get made and were committed to ensuring that is kept to an absolute minimum.
Were going to run in batches of 20 to start. Once we determine that it’s time to start sending in work we will do so by surveying the cartridges being requested. If we get a pile of 308 Winchesters and a fruit salad of others then it makes sense for us to run all the 308’s first. This is how production gets efficient. It allows us to be profitable while simultaneously offering deep discounts on the work being done. I’ve invested heavily into our infrastructure. We have full confidence on being able to run a production schedule that will surprise a great number of people. This is already well documented here on Sniper’s Hide.

Barrels:
I DO NOT STOCK BARRELS. You will need to source your own custom barrel. The prices quoted above are largely for LABOR ONLY. The cost of a barrel is NOT included in anything.

We encourage everyone to source their barrel(s) from any of the following quality vendors:

Grizzly Industrial. –Bartlein barrel vendor with over 1200 barrels in stock
Southern Precision Rifles, aka “Bugholes.com” Stocking every top shelf level cut rifle barrel made in the United States. Over 200 in stock usually
Bruno’s Shooter Supply in AZ. Stocks both cut and button rifled barrels in good quanitity
3rd Generation Shooter Supply, Stocks a variety of barrels
Sinclair International. Another great resource for custom barrels.

I’m sure there are many others, these are the companies I’ve either had personal experience with or that come highly recommended by our clients.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Barrels manufactured by Lothar Walther will not be used under any circumstance.
Black Star barrels will not be used under any circumstance.
Barrels with stellite liners will not be used under any circumstance. If a barrel that has been treated this way slips through our initial QC and breaks a reamer, YOU will be billed for the full replacement cost of the chamber reamer and any other tooling costs. DON’T DO IT.
A barrel that has been surface nitrided, “melonited”, or undergone any other treatment that increases its surface hardness beyond the typical 32-35 Rockwell C scale level will not be used under any circumstance. If a barrel that has been treated this way slips through our initial QC and breaks a reamer, YOU will be billed for the full replacement cost of the chamber reamer and any other tooling costs. DON’T DO IT.
Accurizing a receiver involves increasing the pitch diameter of the existing thread where the barrel attaches. We CANNOT accurize your receiver and reattach your old barrel using the original threads. To do so would be extremely dangerous to you the end user. IF your barrel has a long cylinder (largest part of the barrel directly in front of the recoil lug) you can send it in and we will remove the existing tennon and remachine it. It’s the same amount of work to do this so the cost for barreling will not be reduced.
Payment:
Upon receipt of your parts and the group buy form, you will be invoiced for the work your asking us to provide for you. Payment is due upon the completion of the commitment on our end.
We like working for our paychecks. If you prefer to send a check ahead of time that is fine, but it is not a requirement.
We DO accept credit cards. A 4% service charge will be assessed for all credit card payments.

SHIPPING YOUR PARTS TO US:
.
The best method is a gun case of appropriate size to what your sending us. This gives the best assurance that your parts will make it here in one piece. If you decide to ship in a cardboard container that is ok too, but UNDERSTAND that your completed barreled action WILL be shipped back to you in a $29.99 dollar gun case. This is NOT negotiable. It’s been a hard lesson having to accept that mail courier services (all are guilty) are not going to treat someone else’s property with respect and care.
Guns in general seem especially susceptible (targets?) for abuse. I would much rather have you a little upset over a gun case that you don’t really need/want than be cussed out and chastised for sending a gun in a box only to discover it’s been destroyed while in transit.
