Remington's J-Lock?

If anyone wants a Gre-Tan, stainless, replacement for a Remington 700, I have one. It is new and never removed from the plastic sleeve that it was shipped in from Brownells.

I don't use the J-lock, and so it's not a problem, anymore.
Headed up to the range once and it was on, forgot the silly key. Ok, nobody else with a 700 was around so I waisted a trip. Now I keep a spare in the ammo box along with a dummy round, and when the 700 goes for a walk, so does the green key. Maybe that's a little ocd or just an annoying habit. Never had it lock on it's own either.

My Vssf has the j-lock that shoots less than .5" in a 22-250 with 45 grain factory ammo so with that type of performance I would be afraid to touch it! I guess there is always the chance it may lockup one day but until then I am happy with it.

I was a bit surprised to see this 3 1/2 year old thread rise from the archives just to send flowers to Catshooter.

The fact that I found a Remington VLS for real cheap because it had a J-Lock and an oversize firing pin bore in the bolt face was of interest to me last year. I had Greg T. bush the bolt face and install the Gre-Tan assembly. The original owner must not have liked how every primer was cratered no matter how hot or mild the load was. I bought the rifle for $300 off the going price so there was room to get it fixed and eliminate the J-Lock shroud at the same time. I have no way to measure the lock time myself and I can't say it has improved my shooting or my love life. If nothing else it just looks better. If you like the J-Lock, I can make you a Heck of a deal on complete stock firing pin assembly and the little green tool. What do you bet that I get no serious offers.

This is the Gre-Tan assembly installed in my Remington VLS. The finish on the Alloy bolt shroud does not match the rest of the gun, but I don't mind. The photo showing the firing pin hole didn't come out to clear. I also had Greg reduce the firing pin diameter to .062. I like the way the bushing better supports the fluted firing pin and keeps it aligned. I think Greg makes a good product and it is not over-priced in my opinion.
