Removing a recoil pad from a rem 700 LSS

I bought this slip on limbsaver pad for our 338 EDGE as it still kicks more then what we like even with the weight and the brake on the rifle. Those 300g bullets are not very forgiving. The stock is the factory LSS stock with the old hard rubber pad, not the R3 or whatever they have these days.

Seems like a pretty straight forward process, unscrew the 2 screws from the butt pad and it should come off right?? Well we backed out the 2 screws as far as they would go and its like the pad is super glued on there. It wouldn't come off for nothing.

I got tired of messing with it, (dont have very much patience) screwed the screws back in the factory pad and just placed the limbsaver over it. So now I got 2 pads on there. Dont know if thats how you do it or not, but I think it'll work out ok.

Maybe take a razor blade and try to trim around where the pad mates to the stock?

I have a .375 H&H and justput a light B&C stock on it (Alaskan Ti). It came with a Limbsaver type pad on it and the recoil is not that bad.

Having two recoils pads would drive me nuts.

Some of the old stocks did indeed have the recoil pads glued on.
I was as confused as you are the first time I ran into one...
I made a wedge to square it up to the table on my band saw and cut it off. A little touch-up with the belt sander and I was good to go...

Good luck....

RePete, I use the same method and it works very well. Most every model Remington makes in a wood stock has the pad glued, even some synthetics

Yea,,,, the one I was talking about was a synthetic....
The second one I ran into that was glued,,, I just masked it off and painted the stock...
Old Turtle,,,, if you're reading this don't bother trying to take the recoil pad off of your stock.

Still a dumb idea if ya ask me.. but Remington obviously didn't get my memo...

my vls had its pad glued on, and i had to peal it off in several pieces, then the backing plate pealed off really quick and easy, then just took some sand paper to clean the rest
