The RRA site says the CC has a 16" barrel with the smith vortex flash hider. Is the barrel 16" before the flash hider, or total length with it? Are they difficult to remove? I'm looking to get either a CC or PP, but I'm trying to figure out what the true barrel length are on the CC's. The flash hider is of no interest to me. Would rather take it off as long as it doesn't cause me to be illegal. I don't want any additional length if it doesn't benefit the shot.

OK... to answer your questions...
I think the 16 inches is the barrel itself. If it were not, the flash hider would have to be permanently attached to complete the 16 inch minimum requirement for a rifle barrel. Therefore, removing it won't, or shouldn't, make it illegal.
Standard flash hiders are not hard to remove, they just unscrew, at least on my RRA's. They may be difficult to unscrew, but they just unscrew.
Between the CC and the PPR, I'd go with the PP rifle. I own one and love it. You are paying roughly $50 for that Smith and if you are going to take it off, I'd go with the Pursuit rifle. Plus you will have to (or should) buy a thread protector for the CC rifle if you take the Smith off.
The other thing that really interests me now is the PPR comes in a 16 inch barrel. They were only 20" when I bought mine.

Usually,,, and I repeat.. Usually, the barrel length listed is the actual barrel...the flash diffuser is an additional length and can just be screwed off...If the barrel is a 14.5" with the 1.5" diffuser, such as some of the M4 Carbines, it is normally listed that way...Then the diffuser is pinned to the barrel and welded over to make it permanent...
One thing you might want to consider if you remove it, is to replace is with one of the Levang muzzle brakes that directs the gases and sound forward... Midway Arms had them for about $30 and I installed one on one of my ARs and it works nicely...A lot quieter than a couple of others that I've tried in the past and you won't have to fool with a thread protector...

I also have the Levang, I like it alot better, it is quieter now.
What's the purpose of the flash hider anyway? Just seems like another inch and a half to catch on limbs when I'm trying to sneak into a stand, without the velocity benefit. I"m a bit concerned of the glare from a stainless barrel, although I guess I could duracoat it. What's the big difference between the CC & PP? Seems like the weight is about the same. I understand I can order any stock on either, correct? This'll be a coyote calling rifle, with a 1.5-4x28 30mm scope. I'll likely get second upper, with a 20" or 24" heavy barrel, with a 6-24x40 for groundhogs in the summer.
