Resource recommendations for coyote killing.

A coyote killed my cat between September 2nd and 3rd. I need to avenge my boy.

I've been interested in hunting (mostly feral pigs) for quite some time now, but I've never even shot a gun (or killed a non-insect animal); thus, I'll be needing intel from experienced coyote hunters.

For background information, I'm eighteen years old and living with my relatively pacifistic parents in HOA-plagued suburban Texas, in the bayou country. I'll have to be discreet.

I'm researching coyotes, hunting techniques, PCP air rifles, related laws, and some taxidermy (I plan to keep their tails and possibly scalps). The goal is to kill seven. I want to get in contact with hunter acquaintances irl (primarily churchmates), but I'm worried about my plans getting leaked before I can achieve my objective.

I would appreciate resources (threads, books, footage, etc), advice, and perhaps someone to talk with about my endeavor as I go through with it.
 
Most HOAs won't allow any shooting of any kind of weapon. BB guns outlawed here. Many urban cities the same (could be a felony). Sling shot with ball bearings?
 
Yeah, you aren't likely to get too much help here in trying to do something less than legal. You also sound like you should start with getting some firearms training and some trigger time with guidance before you do anything. Just sayin. That said, just dig around on this forum if you're looking for information. You'll get more good information AFTER you have tried and failed miserably. You can then tell us what you did and the results, then we can tell you how to remedy it. There's really no shortcuts when it comes to coyotes!

Yeah, I still need to find the laws of my exact HOA, but I've had friends shoot BB guns around here in the past. I was considering a slingshot alongside some other non-firearm-adjacent weapons, though I'd have to figure out how to: A. shoot a slingshot with enough power and B. get close enough to a coyote for that.

Do you have any specific sources you'd recommend for the slingshot option?

On a different note, though I don't intend on sharing my exact plans with these people, I'm sure I can work out a way to get some form of shooting practice in on targets, maybe hogs (parents tolerate it because they're invasive and whatnot). So I'd say that boosts my overall chances with this somewhat

Noted noted, yeah I'll be playing the long game with this, I don't expect anything major anytime soon
 
Just know that killing up close and personal isn't pretty and not easily stomached by novices. (IE dispatching animals point blank in traps be it by gun or choke pole)
 
Well, check your laws, a bow and arrow might be your best choice. Now there are some arrow firing air guns that apear quite lethal, not sure where they set legally.
Not one to back down from a challenge myself, I appreciate your ambition. That being said, coyote has been my hardest animal to learn to hunt, and I've been hunting since I could walk.

Only thing that has eluded me better are pa black bear, but with fairly low bear density & a 3 day season, it's tough.

I would suggest trapping probably in a live trap for hoa legalities. Once you have it in a trap, that's your choice. I will say this, I helped my grandpa release a bobcat once, and have heard tales on alpha coyotes, they ain't for cuddling.

Never had good luck with a Ketch-all and K9’s. Now felines are relatively quick and easy when you learn how to do it. The Death Ray is the way to go for K9’s and felines. I’m just too cheap after buying the Ketch-all first, lol. Plus my State law requires a .22LR to be carried and used to dispatch.
 
I know very few people that catch coyotes in cages and those folks I’ve read about on forums, lol. Bobcats and fox, yeah. Coyotes, not so much.

I agree it's probably not an easy task, but explaining a live animal trap is a little easier than a suppressed ar15 and thermal in suburbia. Will it work, maybe... what are your other options, planting a rifle in a tree house and having a kill area of 25' square and needing drt results?
 
I personally wouldn’t hunt/shoot/trap that area at all. Too many things that “could” go wrong despite doing everything right!
Best advice I can give is to get with the HOA and see what options I have and go from there.
 
your best legal option is to call fish and game and ask if they have a nuisance trapper that can come out before anymore pets are killed. notify the HOA and i bet they pay for it., they wont want their favorite fur baby eaten by a coyote.
