Respect for Les Johnson

I can in part thank him for getting me into this sport about 8 years ago. I bought his show and that was it. Way to go to all that were involved with an event like that.

John

One of Les' sponsor donated a rifle and a shotgun, the Friends of NRA donated a rifle, and a local guy and local ffl donated a rifle as well.

Absolutely and our Volunteer Fire Department is top notch. They do a lot and take their job seriously.

That was really nice of him. Les is a helluva predator hunter I would love to hunt with him if I had the chance. Someday I hope to contribute to something special like that. I enjoy teaching and helping the younger generation about the art of Predator hunting.

Wonderful story. It speaks well for the future when people come together like this; especially for kids. The Conservation Officer deserves some public notice for his time and effort. Probably not the kind of guy that would want that. We are so lucky to have the hunting and fishing heritage that we enjoy. By involving these young men and women we are helping prepare the future generation to continue to battle for and protect our outdoor heritage. Lord knows, there are more and more whack jobs out there that want to take that from us.

I know the world is a vastly different place then when I was 11 or 12 but I can tell you I would have preferred being outdoors hunting and/or fishing to any darn video game! Still the case!

My son Tanner and I had more fun in Philip helping to put on this hunt than I can cover in one post!! Truly one of the most humbling experiences of my life. Tanner and I had the pleasure of drawing out of the bucket and hunting with 9 year old Mason and his Father Jim. We were able to call 3 coyotes in for him, and a herd of mule deer to 4 yards. They were awesome to share stands with. Philip and the surrounding area, such as Kadoka, treated us so well. They were so hospitable to us all. We flat fell in Love with the town!! The parents, kids, and community are top notch!! It was a Hunt we'll never forget, and it was awesome to gain new family and friends. We were so blessed to be able to help kids and parents alike to do something together and maybe learn something new. Thank you Zach Thompsen, Philip Fire Dpt. and the town of Philip S. Dakota for One Great Hunt!! "Let's Get To Callin!!"

Great stuff this is why I hunt and fish most of the people I run across are salt of the earth people.
Kudo's to Les for being one of them

Apparently the local game warden had emailed Les looking for donations and Les emailed back and said he would not only donate prizes he would show up, give a demonstration and take a kid hunting the next day.

Friday night at sign up each kid received a Predator Quest youth call and a decal. Les and his camera guy had some of his predator quest merchandise for sale and Les was more than happy to talk to anyone who had questions about anything. Later on in the evening one of Les' prostaffers showed up as well. After everyone was signed up Les gave a demonstration to the kids on how to set up, what to watch for, and how to use their calls. Then his prostaffer Matt and his kid gave a few demonstrations as well. The big excitement of the night was when 2 kids won the chance to hunt with Les and Matt the next day.

The day of the hunt conditions could not have been worse 91 degrees 30 mph South wind and a full bright moon the night before. There were not many coyotes killed but it was a fun and enjoyable day. Saturday night at check in prizes were awarded for biggest coyote, smallest, longest tail, shortest tail, most coyotes killed for 12 and older and most killed for 11 and under. There were a ton of door prizes and 4 rifles given away as well. Perhaps the most memorable moment was when Les gave his personal shotgun to the young girl who had been hunting with him that day.

I know I've missed some details and I could write for days about this event but I just can not say enough how much respect I have for Les Johnson and his Predator Quest crew. The way they conducted themselves, they're generosity, and the general joy they gave these children was truly amazing. We know we were lucky to have them on hand and it was not easy for them to make this work with their schedule. I was already a fan but after this event I have a different view and a different respect for Les. It perhaps was something you had to be on hand to fully grasp but it just felt like they took true pride in what they were doing. I just felt like people should hear about this event and after seeing the 78 kids fall in love with the sport the future is in good hands!

I agree... I took my bull up to Marty Hansen last week and he told Rush and I to come up, unfortunately we were weaning and trying to finish haying. Would of loved to go! I also enjoy watching Predator Quest!

Marty is a stand up guy and his work is top notch! I seen pictures of your bull on Facebook he was a PIG! Our little town really is a great place, we have had some negative publicity over the last year and it really is nice to get some positive recognition for a change.

This was a great event and glad the PQ team could be part of it. I have said it many times already, but honestly one of the best hunts/events I have been a part of...and my rifle never left the case. We did capture some film and got a 11 year old's first coyote kill on video. The smiles of 74 kids was enough for me. This community was truly amazing and I believe the impact on Philip, SD was just a big on the PQ team for sure. I have been exchanging emails with one family already about getting back up to hunt some birds. Zach (wildlife officer) is a true stand up guy as well. His community looks up to him as well and he made this event successful. Thanks to everyone--we look forward to seeing you all again!

This is all...very GOOD STUFF to read !! Makes me proud to be an outdoorsman, and proud to believe that my 3 sons will get to enjoy the same experiences that their old man has for lots of years. A big...."WAY TO GO !!" to ALL involved in that hunt.

Thank you, Les and the PQ Team! And, thank you to you, Fairchase93, for bringing this to our attention in a thoughtful write-up. Good deeds just need to be reported!

Small town America at its best!

Kudos to all involved.
