Restoring a savage 99

This gun was very abused, even coated in lacquer during a rough stock refinish, and now I’m getting to make it look better than new for my girlfriends family! Two tone polishing and jeweling done. Reblued. Internals too! Brass rotary mag polished. And now because Brownells sent a garbage stock that doesn’t come close to the right demensions, I’m refinishing the stock that was on it. Original 1941 that’s had some modifications I’ll have to fix haha. The baikal is on hold till I get a checkering cradle made for it.

Nice, my favorite lever gun is the 99, I've had them in 25-35, 250-3000, 300 Sav, 308 Win and 375 Win. I still have the 308 and 375 they were factory d&t'd the others I sold off due to the fact I could no longer shoot open sights and didn't want to molest some really nice originals.

This ones a 250-3000 and it’d be a sweet deer and coyote gun but I can’t find ammo! I guess I’ll have to buy the Hornady for $29 a box at the cabelas. I didn’t know they were made in 25-35 and 375! Very cool lever guns, wish this one was mine.

I was at a friends house a couple of days ago. He showed me one of his 99's. It's a 100 year anniversary, with all kinds of brass and inlays, NIB and unfired. His dad gave it to him in 1995 for a Christmas present. The box still has the Christmas paper on it.

That would be incredible to see! I like all classic firearms, even the beater barn gun, but when they’re all dolled up- I wish they still made em like that!

Maybe next time I go over there, I'll see if he will let me get a picture or two of it. Funny, as pretty and classy as it is, I looked up the value and its 66% of the same model without the frills. Doesn't seem right but commemorative rifles don't seem to bring as much as standards.

Savage made 1895/1899/99's in most of the Win caliber, 25-35, 30-30, 32-40 and 38-55, plus their proprietary calibers 22 Savage High power, 303 Savage 250-3000 and 300 Savage and later ones in 22-250, 243 Win, 7mm-08, 284 Win, 308 and 358 Win and 375 Win. The last ones they made had detachable box mags and are much less desirable to Savage collectors/shooters.

My 25-35 was an 1899B with a 26" octagon barrel and tang sight, my 250-3000 was a take down model.
