Results from the 7th Annual Coyote Craze Classic!!

40 teams and reps from NE, WY, CO, SD, KS, IA, MO, and GA participated in this year's event. Many teams experienced high winds on Saturday but a record number of coyotes where still checked in on Sunday afternoon. Overall, 125 coyotes were checked in by 31 of the 40 teams. Of the 125, 68 had some form of mange. Heavy coyote weighed in at an impressive 47 lbs, 3 oz and the small coyote was 18 lbs, 2 oz.

Congrats to all the teams for making this hunt another huge success!! Also, thank you to all the great sponsors that donate and participate!

Results

1st Place - 10 coyotes (309 lbs, 3 oz) - Brett Rye of Sterling, CO and Travis Stull of Iliff, CO & rep Doug Yancey of Colorado Springs, CO

2nd Place - 8 coyotes (247 lbs, 5 oz) - Wade Edis and Jay Lovitt both of Mullen, NE & rep Lynn Lilienthal of Grand Island, NE

3rd Place - 8 coyotes (228 lbs, 1 oz) - Jeff & Lynn Cooper of Oshkosh, NE & rep Warren Offenberg of Perry, GA

4th Place - 8 coyotes (225 lbs, 5 oz) - Shane Gorwill & Jason Christiansen of Arthur, NE & rep Curt Haynes of Hugoton, KS.

5th Place - 8 coyotes (222 lbs, 14 oz) - Kyle Beyea of Gothenberg, NE and Earl Hipke of O'Neill, NE & rep Brandon Mossberg of Kimball, NE.

6th Place - 7 coyotes (210 lbs, 3 oz) - Tucker Sheets & Matt Minor of Hyannis, NE & rep Joe Rydell of Alliance, NE.

7th Place - 6 coyotes (186 lbs, 8 oz) - Dustin Patterson of Westmoreland, KS and Nick Bosley of Loveland, CO & rep Gary Turley of Perry, GA

8th Place - 5 coyotes (165 lbs, 6 oz) - Matt Hebbert of Hyannis, NE and Chris Davidson of Kearney, NE & rep Baxter Poe of Alliance, NE

9th Place - 5 coyotes (148 lbs, 6 oz) - Cooper and Gauge McBride of Big Springs, NE and Dan Markussen of Ogallala, NE & rep Quinton Wagoner of Gering, NE

10th place - 5 coyotes (144 lbs, 5 oz) - Dana McCormick and Rowdy Wethom of Mitchell, NE and Hoss Cross of Lyman, NE & rep Colin Murphy of Mitchell, NE

11th place - 5 coyotes (139 lbs, 3 oz) - Casey Johnson of Cheyenne, WY and Chris Johnson of Rapid City, SD & rep Randy Shaw of Nixa, MO.

12th place - 5 coyotes (137 lbs, 13 oz) - Dave McCartney of Chadron, NE and Chad Johnson of Mitchell, NE & rep John Blake of Scottsbluff, NE.

Another great year. This is the one contest a year I would never miss! Great people, fair competition verified by the reps, great prizes. Geoff consistently puts on one of the best competitions year after year. Thanks to all the sponsors who support this event.

The reps are there to equilize everyone and make sure all the rules are followed. Friday night, before the rules meeting, each teams comes up and draws their rep out of a hat. Essentially, that rep becomes the 3rd member of the team and hunts with them all weekend. Any coyote that a rep kills counts towards the teams' totals. Experience levels vary dramatically in the rep pool. Some have never hunted coyotes before and some are seasoned veterans!! So from the team's standpoint, with the draw you can gain quite an advantage with the right rep. Regardless of who they draw though, all the reps have that same crazy passion for killing coyotes that the teams have. The commroderie that is built up over the years by doing this is second to none!! Plus after the check in on Sunday, there is never a doubt in anyone's mind who the real winner is!! This year 18 reps killed coyotes for their teams.

Years ago they held contests based out of Springfield, CO that were ran very similar to this. My buddy and I hunted those contests for years. In fact every year they had it. We even won it one year.

I always liked the format of those contests with the reps.

Wow... that's a stack of coyotes!! Great job to all. Those are some great prizes as well.

I'd love to get in on a contest like that one day.
 
Doggin Coyotes - They must have gotten tired of all the extra work lining up dependable and good reps!! LOL!! I can definitely see why nobody goes through the hassle of running a contest like this! Logistically, it can be a nightmare sometimes. But at the end of the day when you get all the positive feedback from the participants, it makes it worth the effort and hassle.

Geoff, I always gave everybody that ran that contest and all the land owners/farmers/ranchers that volunteered to be reps a whole bunch of praise. That had to be a nightmare to get all lined out.

My hat goes off to you, your crew and all the reps for running it the way you do. I always said the contest they put on in Springfield was one of the best ways to do a contest. Lotta, lotta work though!
