Reticle Focus

Hey guys. Just bought a new Burris E1 3-9x40mm. I am trying to set the reticle focus by "aiming at the sky" and then briefly looking through the scope and adjusting the reticle. Problem is, it always looks in focus to me. The only time it is out of focus is if the fast focus is dialed wayyy out. If it's all the way "in" or halfway "in" it looks the same to my eye, solid black and sharp.

I easily have 20/20 vision, I'm only 26. Any ideas? For those of you with similar vision, how in/out is your fast focus eyepiece? Thanks.

Sorry for the noob question.

More than anything I just like my stuff set up correctly. A bit of a perfectionist and I like knowing my gear is setup correctly.

I experience the same thing with my scopes. We are young with good eyesight so I don't think it matters much. As we age we will probably have to do some adjusting. Until then, shoot away!

Badd badd...

It can look sharp and be off. Focusing the reticle is NOT about how sharp it looks.

I wrote this about 8 years ago on another site.

It goes into detail.
