Revolver ?

Last year I bought out another reloaders complete setup. Included was about 500 cast lead 100 grain .32 Cal bullets. They came lubed and in a cigar box.

I convinced my wife that it would be a waste of money to throw them away. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif She obliged with a 32 H&R Magnum Ruger Revolver to fire them in for our last anniversary. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Now the problem. This gun has the non adjustable sights. It consistantly hits to the right. Has anyone found a way to change the point of impact on a non adjustable sighted revolver.

Does anyone have a load they like in this round

Just aim to the left /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Sorry I couldn't resist.

RC....find another weapon you'd like and I'll send you a box of bullets......see if that continues to work.

We may be on to something here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

ROFL, Now that is the kind of help I was looking for.

Crapshoot and Jason may be on to something here. I am right eye dominant, and I am hitting right. Maybe if I tape my right eye shut and shoot with my left eye. I may hit left.

TC, How cool is that for a wife. 26 years and she is still buying me guns. She knew it was a ruse, but played along anyway.

LOL!! That's an easy one! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Just barely touch the tip of your finger to the trigger! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That'll force the barrel left when you shoot! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

(Sorry about the quality of the picture. The left side of the card says "Too much or too little trigger finger".)

RC...my wifes a real keeper too..... she takes better care of me than I deserve for sure, AND she loves the outdoors, her ATV and Camping......

Try changing to another powder , sometimes this will change your point of impact. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Trying different loads, bullet weights, and velocities may help. Sometimes you can tweak a load closer to point of aim. Sometimes not, or the absolute best load doesn't hit where you need it to. If the gun is a keeper and you have a super duper load that is likely to be "the" load for that revolver - the absolute best solution IMHO is to have a gunsmith turn the barrel ever so slightly to bring the front sight around, thus bringing the point of impact where you need it. Sounds like a big deal, but really it's not. The amount needed to make the adjustment is very, very, slight for a 25 yard sight in. Or, here are some alternatives.

Otherwise, you can bend the front sight being very, very, careful to not break the silver soldered joint to the barrel. This is a somewhat risky proposition.

Or, you can have a dovetailed front sight installed. This makes windage and elevation easier by drifting the new sight left/right in the dovetail, and elevation by changing the height of the sight. It will detract from the original look, especially if you're going for the "western" style. It is a very good fixed sight system however.

And last, you can very, very, carefully file the rear sight window notch on whichever side is appropriate allowing more light in, causing you to center the front sight over to adjust the windage. This is a not so great way to solve the problem IMHO. About as risky as bending the front sight blade.

Notice how many times I said, "very, very, carefully..."

Don't bend the sight untill you have turned the barrel!

Right on the money.

yeah rufus. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to try to manipulate the POI with my powder charge. I have loaded 3 different powders to see if it will change. I will test these off sand bags. If they all print to the same POI I will carry it to a smith to have the barrel turned.

I have done a search and cant find any data for this 100 gr cast bullet in my manuals or the internet. I am using the 32 S&W Long data and going up from there.

I was gonna suggest putting a long handled screwdriver in the barrel after clamping the gun in a vise, but I see that the others have chimed in with more 'practical' solutions.

Oh well, I guess as a last resort..........

ROTFL. One guy comes up with a problem and look at all the help he gets /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif. One of the many reasons I like it here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. You guys are first class! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I was wondering if you could bend the barrel on a handgun (or rifle) like you can a shotgun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif .....

I seriously doubt it. Sounds like a good idea tho. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
