Rifle Caliber for deer?

Theres nothing wrong with the old 30-30 killed alot of deer with one back in the day when I was kid and first started hunting still take it out once in a while. My dad always laughs and says you have 26 different rifles and you bring that old thing out.But saying that there are just alot better calibers out there that will do what it does and a whole lot more.My favorite one is my 270wsm,270,and243

50 BMG/////////////////////// no just joking i think you would be well pleased with a 308 its easy to find bullets for and will shoot as far as you would need to, and you have alot better selection of bullet weights on it then most others , they all good , but for a first rifle i think a 308 would be your ticket they have proved there selfs for years in the military and the feld also. I grew up in Ny ,in seneca county, it is slug only or muzzle loader. After moving to the great state of TN, i h
ave hunted with strickly rifles, there is no comparison between slug guns and rifels. The slug has its place and for most applications works well, for long range 200+ yards the rifle is the way to go. Knowing the land and the way it is hunted in the areas your talking about I would recomend the 7mm/08. at about 2850 fps with a 139 to 150 grain bullet hornady has several version avalible. And yes sugs will take a white tail at 200, ihave seen it done many times and it is not my preferd way of taking white tails but for those that dont have the choice its the best opption.
