I was looking into a rifle mounted video camera to capture some film of my hunts, has anyone tried these? Do you have any advice on which one is best or tips for their use?
Go-Pros are pretty popular. I have a thread going right now on the best way to mount it to a gun.
Only complaint with them is they have a "fish eye" effect on all of their recordings and they have no zoom so its hard to see critters that are very far away.
this should work good for a smaller point and shoot. I found it after seeing a guy shoot sparrows with an air rifle on youtube and he used this. he even used a high speed camera (240 f/s) and you could see the .177 flying through the air to the target. it was pretty cool.
I am currently testing a HD sports cam from Swann, it's very neat and far more compact than the Go-pro or drift. Although it would be nice to have some form of magnified lens, as mentioned above they all are very wide angled lenses so not so good for distant targets.
You just need to get em in close I guess.
They have a removable Lithium Ion battery and come with a 4 gig micro SD card. there are some you tube videos with it mounted on rifles and it looks good.
Now THAT looks interesting! He makes some very valid points about folks that can no longer get to a proper shooting position, or have lost the level of eyesight required to shoot like they used to. They can once again enjoy shooting like they used to.
Necessity being the mother of invention and all that, my hat's off to folks who not only come up with the idea, but act on it and make a product that will work like that.
I have the Contour GPS model. Contour offers an App that you can download to your I-phone or Droid or Tablet and make all video/resolution adjustments from....(blue tooth).I am very happy with it.. It also offers a multitude of mounting option and hardware. Its cylindrical in shape... not as wide as a 40 mil objective lens.. so doesnt get banged around in the vehicle. Check out their Web site for sure
